Sales of beef dripping surge

An explanation / opinion on why seed oils are not good for your health.

I skipped through this as it was late. But from what I could tell, he used no citations in the video. I also couldn't find any in the video's description box. This video is not evidence for the claim.

The seed oil thing is rife on X - with endless posts from people (Some of them doctors) stating without any source that seed oils are bad and the cause of the obesity epidemic.

From what I've read, this is scaremongering. People like simple solutions. X is the cause. Stop eating X and you'll be OK.

The issue with seed oils is high levels of Omega 6 to 3, and omega 6 *might* cause inflammation whereas omega 3 is vital. But I don't believe there are any clinical studies showing this. There have been studies on rats that show high levels of Omega 6 *might* promote inflammation.

There is also a 'correlation' effect - because obesity and heart disease levels grew as seed oils were adopted, some people think seed oils are the cause (But it's just a correlation and there's no evidence that it's the cause.)

There may be cause for concern with ultra processed foods (Because this tends to mean lower omega 3 intake) but I'm sure I've seen research showing that replacing saturated fat with unsaturated fat (Like seed oils) is beneficial to lipid profiles.

I really have no idea what this has to do with seed oils and inflammation, but yes...if we're to save this planet, the majority of animal-consumption needs rid.
Politics has everything to do with trends in what is and what isn't pushed to the public. There are actors on both sides of many news, stories, arguments etc working often behind the scenes, lobbying, funding etc.

Someone pointing out how seed oils sold to the public are highly processed doesn't need any citations.

Please can you share with us any information or studies which show ultra processed foods or oils are healthy?

The topic is about lard, saturated fats, oils and health. What do you think the topic is about?
The topic is about beef dripping which is rendered fat from cattle. Lard is rendered fat from pigs. You seem to be using the terms interchangeably.

I never said ultra processed foods are healthy. I said studies have shown replacing saturated fat with unsaturated fat have shown to be beneficial to lipids.

This from NICE, and contains some info about this topic.

A large body of evidence supports the health impact of linoleic acid (the principle omega 6 oil)including meta analyses of clinical trials, and long-term prospective cohort studies.(15) In a recent Science Advisory for the American Heart Association, Harris et al (2009) reviewed the evidence of omega 6 oils and cardiovascular disease, and found agreement in the evidence from different types studies. A meta-analysis of RCTs which substituted saturated fats for omega 6 oils found a 24% decreased risk of CHD. Epidemiologically, substituting 10% of calories from saturated fat with omega 6 fats was associated with an 18mg/d decrease in LDL cholesterol. While the Nurses Health Study found women with the highest intakes of omega 6 fats (7% of energy) had a 25% reduced risk of CHD compared to those in the lowest intakes (2.8% energy).(15)

Beef dripping does make nice chips mind, mother made chips this way, same for roast tatties.

There's lot of nonsense about seed oils, reputable sources dismiss it when used sensibly. We use veg oil for frying also use sesame seed infused oils for stir fry dishes & such. When frying mushroom & onions like to use butter for flavour.

Well isn't that the very same point that is being made by others. Hence why people are moving away from these highly processed seed oils and into - as the thread started - into alternatives for example like tallow.

They are doing it because they are just listening to people who like simple answers to complex questions. That's how people are.

Most of them are probably completely ignorant about what's in seed oils, how they are processed, and how they affect lipids (Which it seems that based on current evidence they don't.) and the metabolism and have probably not read any of the research

All the concerns raised come down to the same thing as any other 'quick fix' promoted by grifters, idiots on X/Twitter, and YouTube 'prophets'.

Just have a balanced diet. Make sure you get omega 3s as well as the sixes, and don't eat a lot of junk food (As they are used in large quantities in junk food, and may lead to an imbalance of omega 6s and 3s).

Who knows what anyone's motives are. I do however think they have a fair point about avoiding the consumption of unhealthy ultra processed foods and instead trying other alternatives that are minimally processed be it oil, fat or food generally. The moto is MAGA make America great again and they seem to be looking at food and health as part of that MAGA.

Of course, let's hope that their chlorinated chicken & hormone pumped beef soon reach our shores, USA are fine example of healthy eating which other countries should follow.
