Tony is rather fond of a glass of Rum now and then, he likes Mount Gay Extra Old Rum, now, I know this is made from sugar cane, but do you think the odd little nip would be OK, or is it a definite no no.

I like malibu which is white rum and coconut , can only tell you how it affects me which sends bs up :(

Also confirmed by Collins Gem Calorie Counter

Bacardi White or Captain Morgan Dark, both nil carbs.

As ever, test, test, test. :D

I would imagine Malibu is sweetened.

Thank you Robster65, Tony will be pleased, but blimey, look at the carbs in beer 😱 I'd better cut down a bit!!..lol

The calories are even more scary ! 😱

People wonder why they put weight on when they drink. The body jumps for joy at such a bumper harvest of energy that it can store away as fat for a rainy day. Soon builds up and, unless you run up mountains, very hard to shift.

But nice to indulge now and then. I love my bitter but rarely more than a pint and rarely more than one every week or two. Boring but healthy.🙄

I'm a bitter drinker too, I love the stuff. Tony doesn't drink at all in the week now, and just a couple at the weekend, I must admit I'm finding it harder than him, he is quite happy with a cup of black tea now.

The odd nip of your favourite tipple wont do any harm. We all need a treat, chocolate, cream cakes, rum, whatever you enjoy. The thing to do is test and see how it reacts with your BGs. Some folks find it better to have a tipple with their main meal, but we are all different. Tell Tony to enjoy his treat.

Beer usually send me up first, and then occasionally down. Sometimes to where I started, but rarely much further. (I know many people have a far more dramatic BG lowering effect after drinking)

I have occasionally experimented with a unit of insulin to squash the spike followed by a later snack, but found it was very hard to get right, and tend to just ignore the carbs in beer (and inevitable rise) and watch for any potential dip later.

Red wine and whisky seem easier on the BGs. All in moderation of course!
