spot the not so deliberate boo boo. Bought a nice looking chicken at lidls today. Decided to cook it while taking son to station. Sounds good so far. Took chicken out of bag, into halogen oven and thought, that's ok then. Looked at wrapper to see temp to cook..... Have you spotted the mistake? It's in the thread title- what a numptie-smells nice though. Wonder what I can do wrong to celeriac, can't say it never mind prepare it lol

Hope you have an axe for the celeriac. It's like chopping a lump of wood.😉

Well the chicken turned out great, but haven't psyched myself up to tackle the beast yet

I suggest you use a peeler to get the outside off, then roast it whole, it's a lot easier to deal with once it's cooked through.

I'll try that tomorrow Alison thanks

I almost forgot, you'll need foil to cover it and keep it from burning on the outside.

Is that a roast till black then scrape??

How long to roast whole ?
That depends on the size I'm afraid but around 2 hours at 180/gas mark 4. Sit it on the foil with the root side down and wrap it tightly. Check after 2 hours and if the top is soft, it's done. If not, give it another 30 minutes. Then you can cut the top off and scrape out the good stuff, and mash it with salt, pepper and butter. Yumm.

Sounds good

Next time leave the chicken in the bag, saves a lot of washing up and keeps the moisture in.
