Hi, having been diagnosed with Diabetes about 8 weeks ago. I was really surprised that after a very quick 1st appointment a few weeks ago that my review would be in 6 months. Is this normal? I thought it would be sooner. I found the Diabetic nurse of not much help tbh. I had blood taken, leaflets given and off you go. I thought there would be more care and information. I haven't even been able to see my Doctor to discuss anything.
I do want to say that finding this forum has brilliant. You have all been so helpful and I appreciate any responses I have received.

Sounds pretty standard how you say your experience went all to often we see people on here saying the same thing. Let me tell you I'm over 8 years in now and I see my gp about my depression more then my diabetes. But they are really through when I do have the checks. I kinda like it that way I know my gp is there if I need her scenario suits me just fine

That sounds like the service I thought I would get. Really what I feel I need. Sounds good to me.

I think I expected it to be more often when you are first diagnosed so as to be support and help.
People seem to ask what GP has said and I only found out I was Diabetic by going online and reading my notes. Nobody actually told me.
I am glad that the checks are through.

Oh yeah hev your spot on it should be but as you saw for yourself alot of them just give you the diagnosis hand you a few leaflets and stick you on pills which don't even come close to the help and support newly diagnosed need

Mine was six months. And in less than a year and a half not that often, except I made a fuss. I'd changed GP practice and was hoping for some actually support and information. There isn't really any. My old GP practice people were dumbfounded at the idea of telling the patient anything. And I'm still struggling against patient exclusion.
