Personally I'd love to do a holiday with other type ones. We can learn so much from each other.

I've always wanted to do one of those group tours across America, but I was told I couldn't do it because I'd be a risk to the group being a type one.

I think what you're looking for is the kind of thing they do for kids, but for adults? I find, as type one is so much rarer than type two, I can often feel so alone. This forum gives me a lot, so please do stay.

Apologies for the snip.
That sort of thing makes me so mad. What risk would a person with diabetes pose to a group travelling across America.

I'm not sure I'd really want a holiday as such with other T1's. I've been to various places without issues - New Zealand, Inter-railing across Europe and just went under our own steam. Having said that I did feel alone when diagnosed. I was 18 so I missed out on the BDA children's holidays and didn't get the chance to meet anyone else with it. There were no groups for young adults. This was before the internet so no forums either.

Managed to survive though. :D

The sports weekends mentioned by Copepod are a different matter with sports/exercise with T1 being the focus and the strategies/science behind it plus the social element of mixing with other T1's all with a common interest.

Just another possibility to add into the mix... which is more of an educational thing - but I wonder if it might appeal - and that is the Animas Sports Weekend. They seem to have them every year or so and I've heard really good things about the way they combine sports/nutrition information with the living-with-T1D aspects and peer-to-peer support.

Demand for Animas Sports Weekends at Loughborough University is very high, so it's essential to register your interest and be prepared to act as soon as email arrives in your inbox. I think that the 100 places on Leeds Beckett University weekend were created in part to meet some excess demand for places. I attended a Loughborough weekend a few years ago, and found I useful, particularly meeting other people with type 1 diabetes who shared my interest in mountain navigation / endurance events, but sessions were tilted towards pump users. I'm also going to attend LBU weekend in Sept 2017, so it will be interesting to see the difference, not just staying at home and visiting course from morning to evening.

Neither have I :(
I suspect that many religious retreats might be suitable eg Quakers and Buddhists, to name a couple of groups with run retreats for people who share their beliefs or want to find out more. They apply principles of living simply, being aware of food, active work such as gardening, walking in gardens or wilder places etc.

I can't imagine anything more nightmarish than being surrounded, even for a weekend, by a crowd of Type 1s. I certainly wouldn't do it now I travel around in a wheelchair. Everybody would point and say look at what can happen, and I would spend the time screaming it's not the ******* diabetes😡

But that's just my opinion.🙂

Have you ever coincidentally been anywhere where there was a Saga Lout hotel?

😱 😱 😱 😱
