we have a mobile unit that comes to our doctors surgery car park about a 10 min walk from home, it's from the paula carr trust which i assume is just for our region in kent. one my nan also visits this unit and she lives in the next town from me she's 93 and type 2 but she does really well managing herself

Wow, 93! Good for her for managing so well, hope I do too when I get to her age!🙂

Here in Southampton they have a mobile unit - a van with the camera in it. When I had mine done it was parked outside the hospital where my diabetic clinic is! I could have waited until it visited my local surgery, but that would have meant waiting another three months, and as I was newly diagnosed I wanted to get the check done asap.

My one big gripe is that they don't let you know the results unless they find something, so you're left wondering. I would much prefer if, like some have said here, they went through the pictures with you - or at least sent you a letter saying you were OK.

Having just been to the Doctor for my 'first' time, and asked several questions, I was informed about this mobile unit. I think I may be lucky, if one can call being Diabetic 'lucky' My doctors surgery has a specialist Diabetic nurse (who I will be seing next Friday), and this mobile comes to the surgery every 3 months..............Happy days🙄

in a new clinic that has recently opened in the local area... usually i just go to the optomitrist to get everything checked, those eye drops are a killer though ... ouch.. they sting.

Thanks for that.........I'm looking foward to it...

NOT!!

They don't always have to use the drops Dave, so you might get away with it. I had them and yes, they do sting a little, but I've had worse! The main thing is to take some sunglasses with you (even if it's not sunny), as the drops really dilate your pupils and everything will be really bright for a couple of hours afterwards.

sure is sunny afterwards!!!! even if it is lashing it down looks like it is sunny to you. i always have my sun glasses with me lol

The drops are a killer, but only once a year. I had mine done earlier this week. To my sons annoyance I reused to use the computer to finish the shopping that evening as the monitor is too bright when I am that wide eyed!

lol yeah computers do seem a little hard to look at for a while after the drops

I have to go to a local-ish optician and get the result by letter about a month later. I don't mind the travel or the drops, but the waiting to be seen can be up to 3 month. And the wording of the letter with the result could also be better. I always wonder what they mean by 'minor changes'.
