Hi all. I am a T2, on metformin and insulin, have had diabetes for around 15 years. I have developed peripheral neuropathy and retinopathy and around 8 months ago had laser treatment in one eye. Over the past few weeks, quite slowly, the vision in that eye has become blurry and when I cover the other eye there are blank areas in my vision. Bizarrely but understandably, the appointment with an ophthalmologist last week was by phone, and I mentioned this problem to him. He said if it got worse I should make an appointment immediately. It is getting worse, so I phoned the hospital but they said there were no appointments available. I will of course phone again and see what they can do but I wanted to ask if retinopathy problems have to be seen as an emergency, or can I wait for the next available appointment? My husband and I are in lockdown as he is recovering from cancer, and I do not want to risk a "full" waiting room with Covid risks if I can wait a couple of weeks. But I don't want to go blind ... I am very worried.

Get on to your GP s/he will ring the hospital for you and get an apt.

Sorry to hear about your eye troubles, snd i can completely understand your worries, but you must look after your health.

You could call NHS 111 for advice, but i think you are right - you need to press for an urgent appointment.

Let us know how you get on.
