retinopathy advice

Have recently been screened but on the day didn't have drops put in cos the nurse said i wouldn't require them?????!!!!!
Now I've had my first recall letter in 10 years and I'm obviously worried.
I'm 47, usually well, and carry no excess weight. I have good control, running at about 6.8.
I have queried the test and now have to go to hospital to find out the results. I think I would need screening again as I don't feel that the original screening (without drops) can be relied upon.
Any thoughts??

the drops open up the eye for a better view, so in a worst case scenario, if there were obvious leaks, the drops dont necessarily mean unreliable........

I haven't had the drops the last 2 times.....

Try not to worry though, they may just want you to come back so you can get drops, and therefore a better view, as its likely you may have background retinopathy, which is normal for most who have had diabetes for many years........

Hi Kitty, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason you have been called in is because things were not quite clear enough on the scan you had done without drops. I had to go to the hospital for a closer exammination when some changes were detected close to the macula. However, on closer examination it was decided that I didn't need any treatment, just to try and keep my levels steady and blood pressure under control.

Hopefully, it will just be to have a closer look at things. Retinopathy normally goes through several stages before action is required and as you have been well-controlled with no previous concerns you will get a clean bill of health. Let us know how things go!
