I'm happy to report that my hba1c has gone down to 49! 🙂 Totally surprised as my levels have been higher during the past 6 months compared to previous. Typical of me I'm wondering if it's correct or maybe previous one wasn't accurate. Why can't I just accept it without worrying?
Anyway not so good is my cholesterol Up to 8.4. I haven't had chance to look at ratios yet but all the numbers look pretty high :(

Great news on your HbA1c.

Phew Linda, that's good to hear but I know you're still not happy about some of your waking figures. Hope you can get your cholesterol levels down, mine are a bit high too :(

Congrats on your A1c. Hope your cholesterol is the right mix of good LDL and HDL.

Great news about your HbA1c Linda, hopefully the ratios will be ok.

Thanks 🙂
Got to find the way to work it all out. Know someone put a link on here about ratios.
I'm working now but will try to find a few minutes to do the numbers.

Thanks 🙂

I'm the same Linda and probably a bit in denial about cholesterol differentiation because I don't want to go on statins after my husband's experience! 😳

Great HbA1c @Lindarose! 🙂 I think that, although your waking numbers tend to be a little elevated above where you would like them to be, your control overall is probably pretty stable, which is actually very good 🙂

Not sure what is happening about the cholesterol though. There are alternatives to statins that might be worth trying.

I've just seen on results ratio is 3.1 which I think is ok but non HDL level is 5.7. Don't think that's so good.
I totally get what you mean Amigo. So many bad reports on statins.
As I was typing this my surgery rang to tell me my cholesterol is high and they want me to see diabetic nurse. Oh dear!

Thanks Northerner. I didn't know there were alternatives. Do you know any names so I can ask about them?.

Yay, well done on the HbA1c! 🙂Good luck with the surgery nurse.😱

Thanks Northerner. I didn't know there were alternatives. Do you know any names so I can ask about them?.
They don't like prescribing some of the alternatives as they are alot more expensive. My friend's husband is on one don't know which he had a bad reaction to Statins but was prescribed by a Cardiologist as he had stents a number of years ago.

The link to alternatives is interesting. I will mention it to the nurse but whilst she is very nice I'm not overly confident that she has the knowledge!

Sorry to harp on but I've put my numbers in an online chart and wondered if someone could answer a question. This is the result
Total Chol 8.4 HIGH RISK
LDL 5.21 VERY HIGH RISK
HDL 2.72 Optimal
Trig 1.01 Normal
Total chol/HDL ratio 3.09 Ideal
HDL/LDL 0.522 Ideal
Trig/ HDL 0.858 Ideal

So does anyone know whether all the ideals and normals cancel out the very high risk? Thanks for any help.

Lovely HbA1c result Lindarose, well done you 🙂

I take Ezetimibe as an alternative to a statin as statins didn't agree with me. I presume it works but I've never had high cholesterol and still don't but was told to take it due to my other complications.

Thanks Flower I must admit I'm happy with it too.
The alternative you're taking to statins is mentioned on northerners link earlier in this thread. It's so hard to know what's best to do. I suffer with joint pains and also memory problems so am fearful of them getting worse.

I believe that is the one my friend's husband takes.

I saw the diabetes nurse this morning about my high cholesterol. As expected she wants me to start taking statins. I explained my reasons for not wanting to take them and showed her my cholesterol ratios on the online chart. But she is adamant that my long term outlook for heart problems is high. She said she will speak to my gp who is very understanding and listens) about an alternative type of statin. I asked for 3 months to try to reduce it myself to which she agreed. I know I have a lot of cheese and double cream. And I do mean a lot! 😱 My general diet can definately be improved so I'm going to make a big effort!
