I inject insulin and I've just received the renewal forms for my driving licence; this is about the 3rd or 4th time since I was diagnosed

On those occasions the forms included one to confirm my identity and a request to sign the photograph
This time there are no forms referring to a photograph, but there is a brief reminder printed inside the return envelope

So can anyone tell me the current procedure?
I've had the photos taken, so I may as well send one anyway

I have just renewed my license and was also puzzled as to wether or not I needed to send a new photo. In the end as it was some time before actual renewal date sent it without and received new license within 4 days using old photo

I renewed my licence the other week. They didnt ask for a photo so I didnt send em one. Got my new license in a couple of days with my old photo on. Actually its the one on the left cut down a bit.

No harm in sending photos, zuludog, but a new photo is only needed every 10 years. In fact, people who don't have to renew their licences every 1,2 or 3 years are more likely to get caugh out.

Thanks for the replies

A few days ago my post, including the one from the DVLA, arrived just as I was about to go into town. I had a glance at it and assumed that I would have to include a photo with the returned forms, so I got some the same day
It was only when I read the forms more carefully that I realised they didn't seem to ask for them. But now that I have the photos anyway I might as well include one

Do they bother updating the photo if you send one when they don't need one? - cos my photo is VILE !

I fail to see how anyone can recognise anyone from this type of photo anyway - take your glasses off, don't smile ... !

The photo has to be renewed every 10 years

My (non-D) husband recently had to renew his photocard. But they gave him the option to just use the photo on his passport (which they also hold electronically these days) rather than put in a new photo, so he just said yes to that.

They used my passport photo last time, as I had just renewed the passport. The gov departments are now sharing all sorts of information about us, nothing is secret anymore.

Until fairly recently, I used as my forum avatar, my Freedom Pass picture (it can still be seen on Wikia). I decided to update it because it doesn't look very much like me (it looks more like Skin'ead O'Connor!😱), and was pretty grim to boot, being an ID photo and thus in the required "6079 Smith W." pose. 🙂

How do you know, when your photo is 10 years old?

As a type1 and a driver I did not have the problem renewing my license till I was told about the DVLA and the requirement in ,I think 1985 or so.Since then every 3 years with no problems at all and have never sent in a new photo since the first time photo license's came about
