Confused by Diabetes UK recipes . Are all these recipes suitable for type 2 as well as type one. I looked at the beetroot and carrot recipe for a coronation special . 10 slices uses 100 gms of caster sugar, pineapple and some pineapple juice, carrot and beetroot. My DN says I shouldnt have more than 5gms of sugar per 100. as type 2. This cake will have more than that per slice???????

I feel their should be more advice as to who can consume such recipes. The precis gives sugar as 15.1 per 100gm and carbs as 27.5 gm. I have alternative sugar but its granulated and may not do in cake
Thanks

I think it is up to the individual to decide whether the recipe is suitable for the regime they are following.
You probably see from the posts here people follow many different regimes even if they are Type 2, some may be diet only, some diet and oral meds, some diet, oral meds and insulin so it would be impossible to say what any particular recipe would be suitable for. At least it gives the carbs so people can make that decision.

You can swap the sugar for a sweetener.

OK I have that...... i presume the carrot and beetroot and pineapple is ok. I spent my first year afraid of anything sweet. It took 18m b4 a dietician realised I was a person who needed basal insulin. My readings are settling but not yet settled ( 2.7 - 15.8 in a few days) but Im winning gradually and amazed at the foods which can be safely consumed. 🙂

I have just looked at the recipe and you could save some carbs by using half ground almonds and half flour and something like Halfspoon instead of the sugar or just ave a smaller slice.

@Leadinglights Thanks . I decided to use 60 /40 flour and almond flour with Erythritol . As you might know ( 🙂 ) the amount of carbs I can tolerate isnt certain. Its time to do some testing out . The insulin seems to be settling into a pattern, so I can use extra finger prick readings to try out different items a Charles and Anne. Unlikely to be around or if around not up to baking cakes and throwing parties. So this is the time to do it and remember. PS Anne is the best ''also ran, 2nd in line'' of the lot. Does so much but expects no celeb status.

Examples of best alternative sugars would be welcome

Sweeteners tend to be a personal taste thing.

I'm not keen on Aspartame personally, I can still taste diet drinks the morning after.

@Leadinglights Thanks for that. As the recipe contains sugar and icing sugar would it be normal for a type 2 , once the target weight has been achieved, to be able to eat a slice of cake similar to this . My weight has always been ok and the insulin is settling the readings down, alongside a dose of Metformin..
I will celebrate today with a small slice and check the readings afterwards. Your input much appreciated.

I don't think is so much weight but what your blood glucose is doing and how you as an individual tolerate the amount of carbs in 'the slice' and how that fits in with the daily carb allowance you have with the regime you are following.
