Thankyou, every bit of advice is greatly appreciated I'm trying to soak it all in. Excuse my ignorance but blousing is injecting?
Hi Gary
Yes sorry to use jargon. Bolusing is injecting, or in my case delivering insulin via my pump. Either way it is getting some insulin into ourselves to match the carbs we eat.

Keep asking. Lots of people happy to help.

I believe bolus is a type of insulin.

Bolus is the fast-acting insulin you have with food and basal is the slow-acting one you have to make sure you have background insulin all the time - that confused me when I first started visiting this forum too!

One other thing to bear in mind with pre-bolusing is that the way you process insulin and carbs will probably be different at different times of day. I can inject 40 minutes before eating breakfast (so long as I don't have a fasting reading below 5, then I'd inject 20 minutes before breakfast) but if I injected more than 5 minutes before lunch I'd be plummeting into a hypo by the time I'd started eating. You may well find the ratios of insulin to carbs you need is different at different times of day too - I inject 1 unit of insulin for every 10g of carbs at breakfast, but 1 unit of insulin for every 22g of carbs at lunch. I need an unusually small amount at lunch, but most people will find their needs vary a bit.
