Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all,
I was diagnosed just over 2 weeks ago with Type 2. HbA1c - 86mmol/mol.
Since then I've also been diagnosed with 1. A blocked bile duct.
2. Poor liver function.
3. Enlarged pancreas.
I've been at the doc this morning for ultrasound and ct scan results, now referred to gastroentrology(?) dept for further investigation. Unfortunately this means I won't be treated for diabetes until my liver/pancreas/bile duct is sorted out.

I'm lost and confused about what I do now?!

Oh dear Roy - the outcome depends on what happens about the bile duct problem - the pancreas produces other things than insulin - digestive enzymes, which travel into the stomach via the gall bladder so if that's 'backing up' in the pancreas presumably it's interfering with either production or distribution of insulin into the bloodstream - that's only a guess though and we have several members who have lost either all or part of their pancreas on the forum who no doubt know more about the technicalities than I do so hopefully can give you some insight.

The thing that strikes me though, is that at the moment the only useful thing you can do to try and help yourself in the absence of treatment, is to watch your diet both for bile and insulin - so lower fat and lower carbohydrate? - but I'm perfectly willing to be corrected on this.

So sorry to hear of your health problems. I hope you get some help and start to feel better soon. Welcome to the forum.

Why can’t they treat your diabetes? I see a pancreatic surgeon for my pancreas. A liver specialist for my liver. Then a diabetologist for my diabetes. Separate departments that have to work together. My pancreas team had to liaise with liver specialist I had hepatitis c and cirrhosis. Before I had 90% of my pancreas removed in an 8 hour surgery. Phone them back up and tell them your concerns.
