Really not having much luck

Im having yet more bother with my Victoza,some may remember i was having bad nausea bother with my Victoza I was put on the lowest dose and that was fine until last week when it started up again, I purpously did not take it one night just to test if the victoza what was causing it and low and behold i was fine that evening.Im going to the docs on 23rd but thats just for blood tests. Yet more bother again with injecting im just not getting used to it and its so annoying now cause I feel like a big baby..........Seriously dont know where to go from here because even if i say to them just put me on insulin its still the injection fear to overcome..

Nothing going with my doctor at the moment she is 2 weeks fully booked up unless its an emergency and my DSN is away in Spain till the 26th.

I dare not even tell her the full truth or she will go mad at me,been skippig my injections through the fear of the pain its causing.Ive tryed the orange trick,my thighs etc etc

End result BS in the 9 and 10s.I know I cant keep going like that.Anybody any suggestions

Hi Steff

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. I'm going to appear blonde here as I'm not sure what the Victoza is that you're talking about but I can talk about injections.

What is it that you're most fearful about with the injections? I don't like injecting thighs, but okay with my tummy, and sometimes upper arm (near to my bingo wings!!) especially if I'm wearing a dress, which is not often I hasten to add, more of a combat-style trousers girl I am. I know its not the easiest thing to do and sometimes I found areas that hurt and then would end up with the bruise too, but I don't seem to get them so much now and I've got a fair bit of 'mummy' tummy to choose from.

I really hope that you feel more confident in making this choice for yourself as it will be of more benefit to you.

Its like insulin comes in a pen and you inject it once a day.My main fear is getting the needle deep enough into the skin so that the victoza goes into my system and does not just squirt all over me.Thank you Jackie xx
 
Can't really offer much by way of suggestions. Started when I was 13, but never really been much good at it. I just do it. I guess the advantage of T1 is having the near instant reminder of what happens when you don't.

The only phobia I have is spiders and I can push myself on that one if I need to.

Could you let anyone else (OH?) inject you ?

Hi steffie, sorry to hear your having problems. Is it causing you pain injecting? Or is it your fear of injecting.

I must admit 8 out of 10 when I inject hurts and bruises. I use my thighs for my levemir and tummy for novo. My legs are a mess at mo with little yellow bruises. I always pinch my skin and go really slowly otherwise I wouldn't get my needles in.

Would you beable to get a telephone consultation if you cannot be seen as an emergency ? Hope you get sorted asap. There is nothing worse than bs being all over the show and please don't miss your injections, keep yourself well misses. The high bs will make you feel more ill. I've just had a right time with mine and felt awful for days, let me know if I can help xxx
 
I'm sorry you're having problems again Steff. I'm not sure I can be of any help as, although I don't like injecting I don't have much problems doing it. I would imagine it's a bit of a vicious circle...you're scared it will hurt so you tense up when you do it which makes it hurt. Sounds like you need a bit of needle phobia counselling.

I'm just thinking how I do it. As advised by my DSN I relax, pinch a bit of fat and plunge the needle straight in at 90 degrees. I find if I do it slowly or at an angle it stings more. Then I let go of the fat and press the plunger with my thumb. It does hurt sometimes and I get the occasional little bruise, but nothing that really bothers me. If it does hurt I move a bit to one side and do it again. Then try to put it out of my mind for next time.

As you know I'm on Byetta, so that's twice per day, and , luckily I haven't had any side effects at all. I do feel so much better and my levels have come down from the high 20's to mostly within range. Maybe that's why I feel confident in doing it, because I've seen good results.

I know 9's and 10's aren't ideal and you don't want to be up there long term, but they're not that bad so try not to feel too worried about them til you can get to see someone to help with your needle problem. And be honest with your doc about missing injections so she knows what a problem it is for you. She can't help you if she doesn't know the full story. And she will have heard it before so wont just think you're being silly. Call the surgery again and see if you can get a telephone consultation to get the ball rolling. Good luck. XXXXX
 
Hi Steff, sorry to hear you're not doing too well. Not much I can say really, you shouldn't worry about not getting the V in. I inject on my waist (where most of the fat is - love handles) and I don't pinch much (are you pinching too hard) and use .8mm needles. I don't find the injections hurt all that much, just the odd bruising and sometimes stinging from the insulin (not the V).
Chin up and soldier on.

have you tried the numbing cream? If not worth a try. I think it's called Emla.
As to the stuff squirting out count to 10 before you withdraw the needle.
As to the sickness from the meds, surely your Dr can give you something to stop that? I know it's another tablet to take but a lot better than having complications from high numbers at the end of the day.

Hi Steff , sorry youre having a rough time at mo , but you really cant afford to miss your injections ( sorry if sound like your dsn :( but im concerned about you ) could you not explain your situation at doctors ? i would say you not taken your injection counts as an emergency ! x
 
I'm sorry that you're having problems with your Victoza and the injecting. I can't give any suggestions about the sickness, but I have a suggestion about injecting.
Do you think your injections hurt, because you're really stressed when injecting? In that case I'd suggest changing the needles to "Novofine Autocover" needles. With those you don't see the needle at all. You just put the end (which is a clear tube) onto the skin where you want to inject. You still need to pinch the skin though. Then you can push the pen down as fast or slowly as you like until the tube has completely disappeared. This means the needle is in and you can start to push the Victoza into your body.
Carol used them before going on the pump, because she just couldn't bring herself to inject. I had to do it for her.
I hope you can resolve both problems to your satisfaction. It's horrible to feel sick all the time (I thought it was bad enough when I was feeling sick during pregnancy)

Firstly Rob I have asked him to inject me and he says no so that counts that out.


Di- its just the fear of the needle having to go right in, i know if it dont then im not getting the liquid in me right.I suppose I could ring and see if doc would be able to fit me in.

Blythe- thank you sweety,at the minute the 9/10s are not effecting me but i know if i stay like that for weeks it will.

Vic- im not pinching too hard, and im now using 8 i was on 6 and that was even worse, when i first started on the 8 i was so relieved but now the pain is happening again.

Sue- I tryed your tip with the tin of coke a while ago it worked for about 3 days,but thanks for the tip on the cream thats definetly something i want to try, wonder if i can get that on script....as for the nausea ive never been given anything for it.

Jenny-thank you for your concern it means alot, im not the type of person to push myself forward and make myself known,so if im told the doc is booked up for 2 weeks i tend to just wait....I think what i will do is take some advice i have been given and on tonights injection shall see how it goes


Monica-Sometimes i can feel stressed i dread 5 o clock coming when i need to inject, i tend to get everyone out of the kitchen and give me 2 minutes peace, its alright for the humans but my dog dont understand lol.Thanks for the name of that needle it sounds and looks ideal,I have wrote the name of the cream and the needle down and will discuss it with my doctor.
 
Hi Steff there are medications that can be prescribed for nausea. I'm on the maximum dose of domperidone which means that I don't always feel nauseous because of the gastroparesis
 
Hi, just to say you can get the Emla cream on prescription ( we do now for our daughter, really helps with cannula changes, doesn't feel a thing! ) prior to this we bought it at chemists for around ?3 (albeit very small tube though only need tiny amount) Good luck 🙂

Thanks I might buy a tube for now then and then see if i can get it on script, anything is better then whats happening now.
 
I have the emla cream so will put that on tonight, last nights injection was not so bad pinched the area not to hard though and it seemed to hurt less.Mind over matter indeed

Let us know how you get on with the cream. Just thought I'd say that, although I was told to pinch the skin before injecting as it can make it less painful, I actually don't do this any more because I find it much more painful. I guess it works for a lot of people but not for me
 
I don't really have any more suggestions, just wanted to say I hope things get better for you soon.
