So I find out what insulin im on tomorrow, and I have to say can't stop thinking about it, and feeling very anxious about the whole injecting, as I now have to do this for the rest of my life!
I no there are worse of folks out there but still struggling to come to terms with the whole insulin injecting!!
I really apologies for my posts keep going on about this but I just can't think about anything else at the moment, I cringe at the thought to do this, I just want it to all to go away.....I am trying my best to come to terms with it but still feel like I am not going to like it, and I no what I am like.....I hate needles!! I no for some of you, you are thinking get over it, but I just can't get to grips with this whole insulin injecting.......I feel so lost!.....the misses does her best to reassure me it will be ok but it is not her that has to have this for the rest of her life.
You have all been great! but I find the closer it comes tomorrow the more I feel sick!!!
I just want to be normal :(

Ant, it's the fear of the unknown that is causing the anxiety. Wish I could be there to help you through it! I know it probably won't work, but try to stop thinking and distract yourself with something else. Honestly, my friend, I do understand how you feel, so you don't need to apologise. What time is your appointment?

It is perfectly understandable that you are scared because you don't know what it will be like. If someone told me that tomorrow I would have to inject for the first time I would be petrified BUT I know that modern needles just slip in and that it is painless...soon it will be as automatic as going to the toilet for you🙂...I should know after more than 54000 injections:D

I hope all goes well, will be thinking of you. 🙂

P.S. I'll be eagerly waiting for your post saying it's not as bad as you thought it would be and that you're feeling fit as a flea (whether that's tomorrow, next week or next month). :D

We'll have a good old chinwag when you come to Southampton 🙂 You have done NOTHING to cause this, so no need to feel any guilt. I do understand though - I have been a bit wild in my time (yes, I know it's hard to believe!), and I did think for a while I had brought it on myself, but now I realise it had nothing to do with any of my actions, just the way things go.

This time tomorrow you will be feeling much better about things, I assure you 🙂

Hi
You have my sympathies! I was diagnosed 3 years ago (after blurred vision) and was told within a year that I needed to inject insulin. As a needle-phobic, it was my worst nightmare. But the lovely DSN that I ended up with managed to find a pen-mate to use. This hides the needles and 'fired' the needle into me with 1 button and then the top button was used to inject the insulin.
Hopefully, your DSN will be able to find something suitable for you.
Good luck for tomorrow!

Good luck for tomorrow, I will be thinking of you. My Auntie felt exactly the same as you, always said she could never inject herself as she was totally needle-phonic. Last year though her levels shot up and she was told she had to start injecting, she was totally beside herself with worry but she did it, overcame her fear and now injects herself everyday with no trouble. I'm not saying she likes doing it (but then who does?) but she does it now without thinking too much about it. I'm sure, in time, you will feel the same.

Hi Ant, I hope it all goes okay for you.
Can I suggest you discuss your needle fears with the DSN as soon as you get there. At least she will understand then and will be able to help you through this.
i know you will be on here soon saying how much better you feel🙂

I am confident it won't be as bad as your mind has worked it up to be.

Your DSN should take your fear seriously. If it's looking at the needles and watching them go in thats terrifying you, you can get needle covers, not sure what they are called but I'm sure some of the parents know what I am on about.

If it's the sight of needles then when you see (and you have to practically squint to see it!) you'll see how small they are, make sure you get the 4mm (or 5mm) ones, you don't need any larger. 4mm will work on most people.

Good luck! x

Many thanks for your replys everyone, needel cover sounds a good idea I will ask
dn today about one.

Just wanted to say good luck at your appointment today. Hope its not as bad as you think it will be.

I always said I wouldnt be able to inject, but like everyone else has said, you do get used to it very quickly. Just dont think about it too much, and you'll be fine. I remember my first injection - I sat building myself up to it for ages, then injected and didnt feel it - i thought i must have missed as really, there was nothing to it.

Good luck again!!!
