Hyperglycemia is apparently when you are consistently about about 8-10 mmol/L (or thereabouts).

And what you would do.... Well someone on insulin could take insulin, someone not on insulin generally only has the option of taking some exercise (but not too strenuous since that can put your levels up) or cutting back on carbs at their next couple of meals.

Just to extend the definition a bit, it's technically anything above that level (8+) but it doesn't normally become a problem in the short term unless it's above about 13 or 14 or so (depends on the individual and situation) but long term should be avoided since even a slight elevation over years can cause some damage.

Symptoms are often a feeling of being slightly spaced with a headache and maybe a feeling of lethargy or tiredness. Some can appear drunk or drugged.
Symptoms vary widely and appear at different levels.🙂

I'm not personally so sure that I would put a hyper as low as 8, as this is below the recommended upper target of a 2 hour post meal level. I'm frequently at or around this level in the mornings, when my insulin resistance is at its greatest, but am not concerned by it as it is a comfortable level for me to set off on a run at - even a 10 would be fine before a long run. I'd only really consider myself hyper at 12 or above, at which point I may consider correcting with insulin.

Im with Alan,im afraid if i considered a hyper as low as 8 ive had millions of the things, I always thought it was 13mmol and above. With regards to actions Stacey its test test, and plenty water down you.I also thought you were not supposed to exercise when i had my 18,9 the other night exercise was certainly not on the cards

thankyou i have never really thought about having high numbers i am often 9-10

I was worried for a bit there! I know children may be a bit different, but if Hannah could stay between 8-10 consistently I'd be delighted. She has been told to aim for between 6-9, but told 'hyper' is 15+

Same here - hyper is 15+, although the recommended levels for a child is between 4-8 before meals and no more than 10 2 hours after meals. On Carol's pump, it recommends to test for Ketones if she inputs a level higher than 14mmols
