Type 2
hi I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in January and I’m doing my blood sugars twice a day but I’m finding it hard of what to eat as I’m eating healthy but my blood sugars go up and down each time and today it was really high 24.8ml what am I doing wrong need advice please

Ideally you should be testing more often just prior to a meal then two hours after which should help you to determine which foods may be causing your BG to rise.

Maybe you are not eating as healthy as you think? I know I wasn't until recently. Have a good look in the food / carbs section for meal ideas. And test before and after meals to find out exactly what you can eat without spiking your bg.

Yep, go to the food section.....I thought I knew what 'Healthy' food was, I was wrong, it's a bit different for Diabetics. You're in good hands here, there's 100s of years experience on this site. 🙂

Right for a start, what kind of things are you eating? and what are your portion sizes like? x

Hi @annp & welcome to the forum. All carbs raise our blood sugars, so things like bread, rice, potatoes & pasta. Wholemeal versions may be slightly better but not for everyone. Most fruit will also raise BG, especially tropical fruit. Berries are best. Things like diary, meat & leafy green veg are best.

Aye, I’m with the gang, it’s probably the food you’re eating. A healthy diet for a normal person isn’t necessarily healthy for us. If you do as Davein suggests, test before meals and two hours after, you’ll learn which foods are doing it. And as has been suggested, look in the food section of the forum for ideas. Are you on any treatment currently?

But for sure, you’ve come to the right place for friendly advice.🙂

you should be testing before a meal and 2 hrs after meal, that will give you a good idea of how your meals are affecting your BG
and how bad your insulin resistance is.
a low carb no sugar diet should work and recommended by every website
my routine is 1 hr after a meal I go for a run, then 2 hrs after meal I test my sugar
it is usually lower 2 hrs after meal than it was before meal
You need to consult diet website but I eat these exclusively
Chicken, fish, tuna, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, beans, onion, celery, lettuce and only drink water
exercising helps overcome insulin resistance by getting my glucose and insulin into the muscles and organs
my blood sugar was 18.5 a month ago, now my average reading is 5.8 with no meds
good luck, talk to your doctor and a dietician
