Hi

I am just wondering if anyone has had an experience where they have seen rapid weight gain in a very short period of time.

This week@

Friday: 15 stone 7
Saturday 15 stone 7
Sunday 15 stone 8
Monday 15 stone 12
Tuesday 15 stone 13
Wednesday 16 stone 2
Thursday 16 stone 5.5 😡

I really don't know whats going on.
Blood sugars have been high for me and then 2 hypos this week

I am on a strict slimming world diet (and sticking to it)
Played tennis 5 times this week
Ran 12.5k in total this week
Gym workout - 3

So it is not anything to do with diet and lack of exercise.

Thinking of any changes:

Went back on Depo contraceptive injection 3 months ago.
Had period beginning of this month but finished Sept 15th - so not that!
Have been struggling with number 2's

Really am at a loss and feeling very overweight again.
I have lost over 3 stone this year but its took me about 40 weeks to do so and to but 12 lbs on in one week is ridiculous!

Help anyone!😱

Oh Lucy that's pants, nothing worse than trying hard and finding your body has rebelled :(. The only two things I can suggest are fluid retention, and if you're excercising more a more positive possibility is an increase in muscle which weighs more than fatty tissue. I would say though that's it's actually quite hard to put weight on (I know it doesn't feel like it) so 12 pounds in a week would be unlikely to be actual fatty tissue. Also constipation can have a pretty big impact on weight, and for me makes my blood sugar run a bit higher than normal (not sure why 😱). Sorry I can't be much more help, but don't lose heart you're doing so well, and with any luck it's just a temporary blip🙂

Hi

Story of my life and at the worst, I gained 5kg in 5 days.

The main thing to look out for is fluid retention, closely followed by constipation. Not wishing to dwell on the subject but constipation can be a real problem and something I get when taking Cocodomol (arthritic knees, muscular spasms and sciatica). I take the soluble stuff, so a double whammy because 8 tablets contain 50% more salt than your RDA.

Well done on losing 3 stone in 40 weeks, a pound a week is right on the money. The great gain is obviously fluid and constipation, you can't physically gain that much weight in the form of fat. I see you weigh every day and although the dieters tell you not to, how else can you see changes unless you have a grip on a daily basis. I weigh every day as well.

Keep doing what you're doing is the most important thing, giving up and returning to old habits is where people go wrong. I see you take Ferusamide, did you stop/forget for a few days? Have you taken anything to cause fluid retention? Are you taking anything for constipation? Vitamin C powder is excellent for that, I take a tea spoon in water, it's very gentle. Dulcolax is also very good and I'll also eat prunes (not so great for BG).

I hope you get it sorted, it isn't fat, that's the main thing. Have you seen the 3,500 cals = 1 lb thing? In other words you'd have to overeat by 3500 calories to gain a pound in weight. It might only be a guideline but an indicator of of how far off the rails you have to go to gain weight.

One other thing to bare in mind long term, if you're doing loads of exercise you'll be building muscle and you'll be surprised how much, I don't think it's what's happened here this week but long term bare it in mind. I had a DJ and dress shirt that fitted perfectly last April, I haven't lost any weight for six months and wore the suit and shirt last week and somebody asked me if I'd been suffering from cancer, cheeky buggers. Mind you I did look like a tramp, trousers falling down (had to buy braces), huge gap around neck of shirt. Jacket looked great though. LOL

All the best
Graham

Very pleased to hear that, hopefully that will just be a little glitch in the overall plan. It is amazing how fluid retention and constipation can affect weight.

The biochemistry that occurs in our bodies is incredible, there's over 500 chemical processes occurring in our body and the Krebs Cycle is just a bit of the overall picture but the one responsible for converting what we eat (and hopefully stored fat) to energy for the muscles to use (or storing it as fat when we eat too much). I only mention this because it might be something that you might want to look at, it can break and not work properly.

Brilliant, the body is indeed a strange thing 🙂

Thank you and very interesting - have never heard of it but will take a look.🙂
