I had a hypo this morning (3.2) and i know that its due to having a drink on friday night.

From past testing, i have to go to bed at about 20 to wake up with a normal reading as I drop an average of about 15 mmols for 3 glasses of wine. But then as long as i dont get carried away with correction doses im normally ok.

Well yesterday i woke up high and gradually dropped throughout the day. I was careful all day testing regularly and even went to bed a little high just to try and make sure i was ok.

Its so frustrating - just when you think youve spotted a pattern and gained a bit of knowledge your body goes and throws another random reading at you!!

Grrrrrrrr! all i wanted was few glasses of wine on a friday night :(

Hi Viki,

I've found that a slice of bread and peanut butter before bed will stave off the 'alcohol dip' during the night. The fat in the peanut butter means that the food is digested slowly. If I go to bed after drinking without something like this, even if I'm relatively high (BG, that is!), then I'll fall very low in the night and usually get woken up sweating.🙂

Hi

Just wondering about the snack before bed after having alcohol. Does your BG have to be at the normal level? I am trying so hard to keep my BGs around 6, however, not really having much joy. I had two glasses of wine last night, and have had three low readings (3.1) (2.4) and (2.1)up to about 1pm
today. Feel a little bit annoyed with myself, because I decided that if having wine caused my blood sugars to drop, then I would have to stop having wine.
This I did for a few days, but I still had hypos, not so many though. I then reduced my basal rates, which might now, need tweeking again. If I have wine, I will try to have a snack as you suggest. It's so frustrating

Val:confused:

Viki, so very frustrating I know. I find 3 glasses of wine is my limit! I try to be sensible and eat supper and usually go to bed a little high and find that sometimes no problems next day at all. Other times I drop drop drop eat eat eat all next day. JUST NO RYME OR REASON TO IT.

Im not giving up drinking a bit of red wine though, I ENJOY IT, lets face it life is too short to give up everything we enjoy.:D

Thats just how i feel! its the small luxuries that make it all bearable! 🙂

I normally drink rose but we didnt have any in so was on white - maybe that made the difference?
