Hi everybody,

It’s me again! Some of you may have read one of my previous threads about why I joined the forum and the fact that I am slowly getting to grips with carb counting so that I am ready for a pump soon.

My blood sugars are running high at the moment, something I am working on slowly and they are coming down in comparison to what they were a few weeks ago.

I have a very random question, I think it is likely to be stress and heat related but I want to see if this has happened to anybody else. I woke up on 12 (which is better than it has been for me recently) and I feel comfortable at that level now, I am slowly bringing it down. I am splitting doses still at the moment but slowly upping my first dose abd lowering my last dose so I can go back to full doses again (unless they’re complex carbs). So I woke up this morning, stayed in bed for about an hour (bloods stayed the same) and then had breakfast. I usually wait a bit to check that they’re going up before injecting as I have a fear of hypoing. It has been around an hour and a half an my blood sugars are only just rising?

I have had an upset stomach which I think is through worrying and the heat, does this sound like my digestive system is just taking longer to process my carbs? My blood sugar is now 16 and I think slowly rising. I just wanted to see if anybody has experienced similar things? I may have had it once or twice before but I was a bit panicked this morning. Thank you

I don’t think I’d worry about that @Teapot99 It could be your upset tummy. As an example, when I have antibiotics that upset my stomach, I sometimes don’t even see a rise at all and no spike. If it does rise, it does so slowly.

Thank you @Inka I appreciate your comment. I did end up searching up the affects too and it said the exact same thing as you have.

My bloods have now risen to 20 so I’m doing half my dose to see how I go. I don’t want them being this high but then I was also worrying about how long it would take my bloods to rise if they went hypo (although I haven’t hypo’d for quite a while).

Can I ask what you do insulin-wise if you find it takes a while for your levels to rise? I’m worried I’ve left it too late now and I’ll have to inject less for my lunch

If I spot the lack of rise after I’ve already injected, I have some Dextro if hovering at a level I know will drop too low soon, and/or a few extra carbs. If I’m on antibiotics and see that it’s happening, the next time I eat I reduce my bolus slightly and continue taking less bolus insulin until I finish the course and see that my response is back to normal. I then revert to my normal bolus.

Thank you @Inka! That all makes sense, something I was considering doing myself so thank you
