I wonder if any of you have advice for me... I had a good check up with the nurse and doc this week, including being pleased with my blood pressure . The doc has put me on ramipril too which I understand is for high blood pressure . I wonder why ? I am already of metformin and simvastatins .. It seems to be that I am being given more medication after a check up which was apparently good !

Did they say what your blood pressure reading actually was? If you're not sure about taking them, perhaps you could ask for a telephone appointment and talk to the doc or nurse about your concerns and why they think you need the ramipril.

Ramipril is to lower bp but at the same time it protects your heart as well, or so I was led to believe at the renal clinic. What dose is it ?, as you are suposed to start on a very low dose and gradually increase it to the full dose. Maybe your bp was just a little high and dr is bringing it down a little. You should ask your gp why he has put you on these tablets but dont stop taking them until you find out. Your statin will be for your cholesterol, metformin diabetes and ramipril generally to keep bp normal.

Hiya ann I am also on ramipril and like others have said it is to lower your blood pressure....the only side effect I get is a dry throat sometimes 🙂

Kidneys and blood vessels ok Ann ? as can often be px'd to protect these too. Maybe worth having a word with pharmacist about it 🙂

Thanks very much everyone, I was surprised he put me on them as the nurse had said she was pleased with my Bp . The doc said kidneys , liver fine and sugars a little high but I am trying to lose a little weight (only about a stone over)
I just seem to be taking more and more tablets !
My pharmacist has sent a letter asking if I want to discuss my meds so I may well take him up on it !

I have to have another blood test at the beginning of may to check things because of the new tab so I will ask the nurse then , or the doc when I see him next .
I have a bit of a swishing sensation in my head which I am not enjoying !!

Just make sure you tell them of any side effects you might be having....there are so many drugs out there and some work better for others....it's a case of try and see...good luck :0)

That sensation could be your BP going TOO low! - take note of when and how often.

You always have to have a blood test in case you have one of the nastier rarer side effects - most people don't get it however.

I called in at the doc and had a phone call later from the receptionist .. He says it won't be the drug but to stop it and try again in a fortnight , if still a prob go and see him .
I didn't take today's tablet and I really do feel better ... Strange.
I have apparently no prob with my liver or kidneys ( just had results of recent blood test) or my blood pressure so I think I will just chill out !!
Thanks people, here for me as usual :D

I'm on that sweetie too, my BP has always been on the edge and docs always assumed I'd had a skin full the night before! But I did a week of home testing and they said it might be worth going on the lowest does and it has got my BP down pretty good. I also find I get a dry throat and if I get any sort of annoying cough it takes a few weeks to shift it! Hey ho...
