I don't drive myself but there is to be a discussion on the Jeremy Vine show this afternoon (from 12 onwards) regarding the changes to the rules on driving with Diabetes

Quite a mixed bag on the programme. Violent pornography, Jimmy Saville, Diabetes, Canoeists and Anglers.

Didn't hear the programme, but I have more problems with anglers than diabetes when kayaking!

Just been listening to it and there's an awful lot of confusion in the information being given out. For a start, they keep talking about hypos at night, but are not clear about the fact that they mean hypos when you are asleep and therefore a) nowhere near a car and b) less likely to spot the signs immediately and therefore might drop lower. At one point a caller says he no longer has night hypos because he is now on levemir and novorapid...erm, so am I (well, lantus) and I can still have the occasional night hypo. The doctor, on hearing this says that yes, it may be possible to get round night hypos by just giving a hint of insulin i.e. a very low dose so you don't hypo. Erm, yes, then maybe spend 7-10 hours or more with high levels that will eventually help you into complications! Sigh!

Vine kept chipping in with his layman's questions but didn't really allow for a clear answer, and he didn't really let the callers speak (or let the doctor speak to the callers properly.

Just my thoughts! 🙂

I would imagine very similar discussions go on in the department responsible for the legislation. It's unlikely they actually consult with any diabetics and will have all sorts of misinformation thrown around. Hence the rethink once the backlash came.

Jeremy Vine has a knack of not letting people speak unless they've got something controversial to say. I try not to listen to him.🙂

anything on the jeremy vine show winds me up, this one especially, but I was busy enough at work to not hear it all, even what the doctor said made me shout at the radio, but what do I know!

:D He was actually the best man at the wedding of my best friend at school. They were at Durham together and both worked their way up the journalism ladder. We lost touch just before he went to uni, so I escaped the pleasure of being in his midst.🙄

He reminds me of a radio version of the Daily Mail.:D

:D No. Me neither. :D

When Jeremy took over from Jimmy Young on Radio 2 I must admit I didn't like his presenting style and interviewing technique, as time has moved on he has grown on me to the extent that I couldn't see anyone else taking over his dinner time slot, each to their own I suppose when it comes to liking radio and tv presenters.

Hey Raymond - couldnt help noticing you live in Yoker, Glasgow - me too - I am newly diagnosed type 1 - could you tell me if there are any support groups local to us
