I went along to my dietician appointment today and it was quite good. She thinks I have excellent control, and is very happy with my carb counting and ratio adjustment. I thought I might get into trouble because I'm a bit rogue with changes, I just do it and see what happens (based on data I've collected) and I think they're used to people consulting with them more (they've expressed shock at my experimental attitude before), but she was fine about it. She agreed that the Lantus needs to go even lower and understood my extra testing makes me feel calmer about it rather than being obsessed by it. I also pick up my half unit pen tomorrow which is exciting because I want to try a bit more "correcting" so I know I can do it and with one unit of insulin dropping me 5 mmol/l I struggle to practice because I'm not getting readings high enough to practice. I'm aware that sounds ridiculous but with that DKA experience earlier this year I am pretty hysterical about highs and need to know I have it covered should they occur. Whilst discussing it later with my Mum, she said my childhood was peppered with my catchphrase "No Catherine will do it" in response to anyone trying to do anything for me, so it's no surprise to her that I'm rogue :D.

They are all starting to make me feel a bit self conscious though, they're very surprised by my approach. Is it really that weird that I have spreadsheets, and graphs and (ahem) binders with information colour coded by category? I don't actually mind if it is weird it's how my brain works and I like my brain, I'm just curious 🙂. Reading that back I realise it's being excited about a half unit pen that's weird isn't it, that's where it all goes wrong 🙄

KC, you're not much different to me in your approach to managing things, so let's you and me be the normal ones and the others that the dietician sees are the ones with weird ideas, like consulting about changes etc. 😉

Rogue, eh? :D

I am excited about your half unit pen on your behalf!

It IS very exciting! No, really. 🙂 Anything that makes control easier...😎

I like that idea, those other people are the weird ones...perfect! That picture is a dead ringer for me, it's uncanny. Not that I know any of the characters from X-Men or anything (dear lord there's no hope for me is there 😱).

Didn't Halle Berry play one of the characters? She's diabetic! Spooky...😱

It is exciting, my little friend betes will love it, all that lovely precise dosing, if the betes is happy then I'm happy :D. I do realise that this is why people think I'm eccentric, but I'm mostly harmless 🙄

Mostly?!😱

She did, wasn't she storm? Or some other character I know absolutely nothing about coz I'm cool....

Hope your half unit pen does the trick to help with your control KookyC, another new shiny diabetes related implement :D

Don't worry about liking graphs and spreadsheets, I remember my consultant laughing at me years ago, pre computer, as I wrote my results in different coloured felt tips according to the bg level. Absolutely nothing wrong with that!

I think we all have a little bit of OCD in us! There are often raised eyebrows in clinic when I get out my big lever-arch file and turn to the appropriate section! I also have a notebook at the ready to take down height/weight/BP/Hba1c for the day. 🙂

Dare I even tell you that I also fill in the diary.....in green for a good reading, yellow for hypo and red for hyper....oh the shame :(

I feel better already :D. Might take my label maker next time, see what they make of that!

I don't think it's weird at all Kooky, after all, I do the same thing myself. If I didn't, I'd forget something really important. Luckily, my consultant, Dr S and the nurses think it's good, hilarious, but good. It's only Dr Idiot who thinks it's a bit OCD, but then she's an idiot. :D

Thanks Alison, I think they're adjusting to my system now and realise I'm not obsessed I'm just organised, they're lucky I didn't do a project plan and a return on investment analysis for a pump....actually now that I think about it....:D

Yay!!! I'm not the only one with OCD :D

I have a spreadsheet, with bs readings, what I had to eat, and doses. All presented with nice graphs 😱

I was also thinking of have a bar chart of pies I like, and a pie chart of my favourite bars 🙂

I double dare you to present them with a pie chart of favourite bars and a bar chart of pies 😉

Who doesn't love a bit of colour coding (apart from, apparently everyone else at my clinic obviously 😱)?

I have the half unit pen, it's sparkly and red and I celebrated by giving myself 1.5 units for dinner. It was an exciting time :D
