I did a quick check on 100gm boiled potato v boiled parsnip

Parsnip 12.9gm carbs of which 5.9gm are sugars
Potato 17.5gm carbs of which 0.8gm are sugars

So both pretty high and I've stopped having my favourite parsnip and apple soup.
 
there is no right or wrong answer here, potatoes aren't really all that unhealthy just some get spikes from them, but then people may manage potatoes and see a spike from parsnips, test before eating and then again 2 hours after, if you see a spike of more than 3mmol then revise and try again another way (adjusting your bolus time etc) we are all so individual that only your meter can help you find what works for you 🙂

Also just checked Carbs and Cals, and as @Felinia says Parsnip is still very slightly higher, but both are quite high.

Depends what you are cooking but I often use Celeriac as Na alterative which is only 2.3 carbs per 100grams.
General rule with vegetables is that anything that grows below the ground is likely to be higher than anything that grows above the ground.

Do you have any experience with the Carbs and Cals app, do you recommend ? I have a very old version of carbs and cals book and it's in Portuguese. I do my measures in mg/dl so it's a bit time consuming to understand and do measure conversions 🙂

so for your reading to become our mmol system it's just a case of dividing your reading by 18, I don't use carbs and cals as I have come across a few that haven't been right which as a Type 1 injecting insulin could run into some trouble but there are a lot that do use it xx

Hello again Matilde. I only have a book version.
For ages I have been using a pocket sized Collin's Gem Carb Counter, which is very quick and easy to use as a look-up.
Recently I have bought the larger 'Carb & Calorie Counter'. This is very well illustrated and good at showing portion sizes, but much less comprehensive in terms of foods covered.
Hope you find a good soultion.
