I agree that it was most likely a duff test strip.

All meter handbooks suggest that if any BG reading seems a bit weird or doesn‘t match how you are feeling you should recheck to be sure.

Ideal readings for a T2 would be 4-7.5 before meals, and ideally no higher than 8.5 by 2 hours after eating.

Any reading much below 4 would be classed as hypoglycaemia, and you would expect to be feeling some or several of the following symptoms:

  • feeling shaky
  • feeling disorientated
  • sweating
  • being anxious or irritable
  • going pale
  • palpitations and a fast pulse
  • lips feeling tingly
  • blurred vision
  • being hungry
  • feeling tearful
  • tiredness
  • having a headache
  • lack of concentration.

My prescribed TrueYou mini goes Lo under 1.1 and Hi above 33.3. I think the lowest I have managed is 1.8, the highest is 32.3. But I have never been under 3 without being very aware of it!

I agree with everyone else that Jacob's result was a misreading for some reason, so no need to talk to a doctor or nurse about unless it repeats. And then it should be so they can hopefully help test the glucometer.

Its a bit strange how low the readings go on these meters before saying lo.
I wouldn't even be in a position to test at that figure.

I think that is another reason I was surprised they went so low,

On the basis of below 1.8 being LO - I have done. Good old Lucozade/full sugar Coke and on one memorable occasion only by my husband's skill and strength and the provision of a large backbox are we still both still alive since I was riding pillion on the way to N. Wales with me unable apparently to remain seated but hanging off at an angle ….. Humulin I didn't exactly suit my metabolism as a basal …..
