Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I have had type 2 for 10 years and Under good control, noticed over last
Few days my bloods on finger machine are a little lower than normal.
ie after meal would be 7 to 8 but recently regularly falling to 6 and by morning
Could be 5 (normally 6) any advice?

Hi there and welcome to the forum 🙂

Not quite sure what your looking for advice on as these are perfectly healthy, well within range, good readings, have you changed anything recently? more exercise? less stress etc? anyway I wouldn't be concerned with those readings
xx

Good to hear
Just sometimes feel a little light headed and not quite right if that makes any sense

It might be that you've been higher and have a sudden drop, its called a false hypo, also happens if you've been running high for a while and start seeing normal levels, anything between 4-7 is completely normal though, you could try a protein snack when feeling light headed in the 5's to trick the brain like a piece of cheese, a few nuts et but I wouldn't use carbs like what us on hypo causing medications need to do if below 4, how do you manage your diabetes? diet and exercise? medication? xx

My diet is ok but not always great no drink or smoke but do
Have some chocolate and savoury snacks but weight has reduced
Constantly and is stable but still overweight
Exercise walking generally with dog for an hour or so or am at the 10000 steps
When working. Will try cheese and the nut trick many thanks
Probably overthinking this

I wouldn't have thought a false hypo was a thing any more given that you've been dealing with type 2 for ten years now and the readings you mention are pretty good.

Have you been getting any higher readings at other times though? When you get light-headed, have you taken a reading then? If not, it'll give you some idea (maybe) of what is going on.

Another thing, how old is your meter? If it is getting on a bit, if you have any test solution it may be worth checking the accuracy of it. I have heard recently that older machines may start being a bit wayward. It is also worth making sure your test strips are still in date.

readings generally around 6 in morning can be a little lower, feel ok at that
When wake up a little light headed reading is around 5!

after eating hour a so after generally 7.5 to 9 tops but fall back to 7 ish b4 bed

machine will be a couple of years old
Blood results from doctors have been over last 6 onths, just recently these lower readings keep throwing themselves in. Test strips new

Do you take any medication for your diabetes @Albert19 ?

Yes

3 a day currently been as low as 1 and a high of 4

Your levels sound great @Albert19.

For what it’s worth, I consider results within 1 mmol/L to be more or less the same. Meters have an acceptable level of variation from lab results of +/- 15% or so (more accuracy required at lower levels). So despite the illusion of decimal point accuracy, home BG meRees are still giving quite ‘ish’ numbers 🙂
