Hi starting levemir tonight at 6 and then will bolous with novorapid for my tea. Now I am used to insultard that seemed to peak alot. What am wondering is when i take the levemir at 6 and then have tea about6:30 to 7ish do I need to be aware of levemir peaking in realtion to taking the novorapid as am thinking they make peak around the same time. The nurse told me to not to worry about levemir peak. Should I take this into account or not? Or although it does have a peak of sorts is it something i do not really need to concern myself with at present? I suppose am concerned that if a little high before meal and add correction that a few hours later I may have dropped to low because I did not factor in that the levemir was to peak and drop me a bit. rambling rambling.... any thoughts comments much appreciated:confused:

You *should* find Levemir less peaky but as with any insulin change you'll just have to test and see and not expect perfection for a week or two. Just throw a bunch of test strips at it until you can see what happens for you.

Be aware that Lev may not last 24 hours so if you start getting BG rises mid-afternoon you may have to consider whether Lev will be better as 2x doses (which helpfully will allow you to adjust for different daytime and night time needs).

Good luck with the switchover - I've heard great things about Levemir and hope it suits you well 🙂

Almost too late, but perhaps worth saying anyway...

Were you having just one injection per day of insulatard? If so, did anyone suggest try changing to 2 injections per day, at times and ratios convenient to you eg bedtime and getting up times or exactly 12 hours apart, equal halves or more at one or other.

Hi thanks both! With insultard was 2 injections a day. For some reason they have decided with 1 for levemir. I wasnt taking any fast acting with the insultard though

🙂
