I just wondered what effects on your blood sugars you ladies notice during your periods?

I have only just got my sugar levels stable enough to notice that some strange things happen during mine. I have had several days of low blood sugars over the last few days of my period and I was eating continuously (literally!) to aviod hypos. Also, I didn't notice my dawn phenomenon being a problem - I was 5.7, 5.8 and 6.5 in the morning but now that I have finished the break from my pill and am taking them again, my blood sugars have been 16.4, 9.9 and 16.1 in the morning!

Hi Natalie,

I have the same problem. The week before I'm due on, I end up increasing my carb to insulin ratio. Then the days I am actually on, and the day before, I have to decrease my Lantus otherwise, like you, I just bounce from 1 hypo to the next, and ALWAYS wake up hypo on those days.

I was told on my BERTIE/DAFNE course that with some women, they can be on different doses for the week they're on, the week before, the week after and the week inbetween! And others don't have any changes.

Let me know what you end up doing!!

Brilliant actually Nat - find out now while you are waiting for your pump - you'll be able to program it (changes in doseage rates) in to a pump!

That's what I'm hoping to be able to do Jenny, I've just never noticed a change before, but then again I was so unstable, eating to aviod hypos was a good day back then! Will have to see if it happens again next time.

Thanks Katie - its reassuring to know that I'm not the only one. Hopefully it will just be one or two different doses for the period week!

Slipper - hehe!

It is a known fact that most womens blood sugars usually drop during periods hence the chocolate cravings ! Im forever having hypos when it is my time of the month.

Wow, never realised there was some reasoning behind the chocolate cravings thing!
