Thanks Sue, had a look and a bit of info on the merits of Dexcom CGM. Im convinced, just got to get the son on side 100%

Hi Carol

I'm sure that you've seen it on my other posts but just to highlight that although it's brilliant the Dexcom can give very strange results for the first 12 hours after each sensor insertion as the sensor settles in - it told me that my BGs had dropped rapidly to 5.2 today although they had stayed steady at 10. But apart from problems for the first twelve hours after sensor insertion I've been extremely surprised and pleased at how close the readings have been in comparison to my meter readings. With regard to the low alert setting for hypos I set mine at 5.0 and that tends to prevent me from suffering hypo symptoms and prevents the majority of my hypos and their symptoms. Your son should not have paracetamol whilst on the CGM - it just sends the CGM completely wacky. Advanced Therapeutics did warn me about this. Finally, in order to prolong the adhesive stickiness it's good to secure it with another type of sticking plaster otherwise the transmitter will no longer remain in place even though the sensor would still be good if it had continued to be stuck in place (if that makes sense). Shiv has previously said about other suggestions to help with keeping it stuck on. I hope that you son gets on really well with the Dexcom

Thanks Amanda, just received it today and put it on charge - all set to go for tomorrow! I think my sons biggest hurdle at the moment seems to be where he is going to put the receiver, he says he has enough things to carry around with his phone and injections etc , but we will see.
