Good Morning,

I just got back from slimming world, to my amazement, over the past fortnight I have put on 6 lbs! One the bus journey back, I couldn't understand how I put that on, but I feel fitter than before. Then I have realised a few things
1. I started to walk with weights in my rucksack
2. Started to use my resistance tubes
3. I started to put OLIVE OIL on my toast in the mornings (rye bread)
4. I had Subway cookies, had a couple of takeaways.

Personally, I think the first three points are the worst things I could have done.
When I was working at G4S with all that food during the Olypmics/Paralympics, I felt the weight creeping on. The strange thing is although I am heavier I FEEL FITTER. My Jeans feel a bit looser, before I could barely put them on just after washing them. But I did just that with no trouble. My arms are bigger due to the (wall press-ups I do everyday for months). I noticed at my nan's yesterday, my back and arms were okay, but I had the belly (you know the one that weightlifters have, some of them).

Summarize:
1. Cut out the OLIVE OIL - only tried that this week, big mistake
2. go back to walking without the weights and no resistance tube
3. No cookies and junk food to see how it goes.

Until the next rant 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi, Oh yes, I only do that in the very early mornings as part of my walking exercise. I never took that with me.

Just wondered about your food while working for G4S during Olympics / Paralympics, as I was a Games Maker at Olympic Park, doing a very sedentery control room job, eating at workforce canteen, with only extra being tea and coffee (no sugar) from control room kitchen. I found the food on offer pretty good, and portion size adequate, although would probably have been hungry if I were walking around more. I made up for lack of walking during shifts with extra walking to / from work (minimum 0.5 mile on way there, 1.5 mile on way "home" due to finishing way past midnight, after nearest bus line stopped) and walking to explore an area (with a bit of extra geocaching for more interest) near my friends' home, new to me. I appreciate that G4S operated in all Olympic venues and I'm not sure about food arrangements at other venues, although Games Makers at Hyde Park got sandwiches, cereal bars & drinks.

Walking with weights in rucksack can be OK, but a lot depends on the type of rucksack - only carry heavy weights in a sac with hip belt, well adjusted shoulder straps and preferably chest strap, too.

As you feel fitter and were surprised by the increase in weight I would suspect that the first point is responsible for what is actually possibly a desirable outcome- you have increased your muscle bulk so weigh more but are leaner and fitter.
Takeaways and cookies are the obvious enemies here- suspect a bit of olive oil here and there although calorific may not be too harmful unless in really excessive quantities- if you agree that weight balance is not just a simple issue of calories in= calories out, and accept that carbs are probably the biggest concern for someone wanting to loose weight
