Im a newly diagnosed diabetic who has been taking metformin for 5 weeks, 2 × 500mg metformin on a morning and the 2 × 500mg metformin on a night. I have been doing 10,000 + steps everyday using my fitbit and have been eating significantly better than i used to. And ive piled on 5lb gradually over the last few weeks and im getting abit annoyed because i was expecting to lose abit of weight to help with my blood sugar levels before my review at end of march. Any advice as im stuck.

What have you been eating? Have you reduced carbohydrates (not just sugars)?

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum! It sounds like you are moving in the right direction and making some changes to help to reduce your BG levels and weight. Being more active is a really great start. What sort of changes have you made to your diet? Did you get any dietary advice from your GP or did you have an opportunity to speak with a dietitian?
As Mark has mentioned, it is not about cutting sugar out of the diet, but reducing carbohydrates and portion sizes.

Hi Rob and welcome. There's a book entitled the CARB & CALORIE COUNTER ~ it contains priceless information and illustrates over 1700 coloured photo's as to carborhydrates ~ calories ~ protein ~ fat ~ saturated fat ~ and fibre values. This highly visual approach makes it incredibly quick and easy to see the nutrient content of the food and drink items you consume. It is an essential book for people living with diabetes and a great support tool for weight management ~ portion control ~ and general healthy eating. It can be purchased from Amazon for £10.49 and worth every penny as many members here will advocate. WL
