Pumps.....?

I've only been diagnosed almost a year and everyone talks about pumps being brilliant. But how exactly do they work and if they make life so much simpler then why wasn't I given the choice at diagnosis to have one? I'm assuming you have to qualify for one in some way...?

are you on tablets or insulin? If on tablets, I don't think you get a lot of choice.

from my understanding, you need to count carbs and adjust dose accordingly, although even if you don't count carbs, it makes sense to keep an eye on things like white bread, potatoes and pasta and your sugar levels.

is the NICE guidelines you need to fit the criteria to be approved for one. So nobody at diagnosis would get one. you need time anyway after diagnosis to get to know whats going on, how insulin works for you etc.

I've got pump envy, want but can't have one!
