This time next week ill have had my pump nearly 24 hours.

I've battled to get a pump since being diagnosed but I don't know if its just down to the fact it's new but I'm scared (ok I maybe being a baby as everyone else looks like it doesn't bother them)

But as mum reminds me, it will help with my nighttime hypos & the fact I live alone & I get agitated before bed worrying.

Sorry for moaning, it's just praying on my mind.

I know it's hard work which I'm willing to do but I'm doubting my decision now

And sorry to the moderators if they think this should be in the pumping section

Laura, of course you're feeling trepidation, it's only natural when you are changing from what you know to something very new. From what I have read, it will be a bit like being diagnosed again as you learn new ways f doing things - it'll probably take a while before you stop feeling that you have missed your injections!

Remember, you have lots of support here, and no question is silly, so whatever you are feeling let us know so we can help you through it. And good luck! 🙂

Laura you'll be fine ! 🙂
We are all creatures of habit so it's normal to feel a bit apprehensive before you make a major change to the way you manage your diabetes. When you start feeling nervous try to remember the reasons you opted for the pump in the first place 🙂
I am sure you will be absolutely fine, and even if the worst case scenario happens and you REALLY don't like it and it really doesnt suit you then I'm sure you can to back to MDI.
Good luck ! 🙂

Hi Laura,

This time next month, you'll love your pump so much you'll never give it back 🙂

The first couple of weeks can be quite hard work. We had a lot of problems with the cannulas (Quicksets) and at some point I was tempted to chuck the pump out of the window! But perseverance paid off and we would never want to switch back to MDI.

Thanks guys 🙂

Hehehe, yes. I remember the point at which excitement/looking forward to starting swapped to feelings of dread and

😱"WHAT ON EARTH AM I DOING!!!!" 😱

From what I can tell pretty much everyone goes through the same - you'll be absolutely fine! 🙂

I agree with the others - you will be fine 🙂

Laura, if it ever comes to me getting a pump I will feel exactly the same as you do now, that's for sure. Reading everyone else's posts that have a pump though, I'm sure you will be fine and never look back. Good luck with it!

I'm glad the day is almost here and you will finally have the pump you've fought for so hard. I'm sure too, that it will make a huge difference in your life once you get going. It's a big step though, and being nervous is natural, but you're going to be just fine, I'm certain of it. You'll have the support of everyone here as you learn how it all works.

I entirely echo what Mike said LOL

I wonder if it's the same as when you plucked up the courage to jump in at the deep end the first time? (I mean literally, at the swimming baths as a kid) Deep breath, launch yerself then Oh sheet (or whatever the 9 year old version of that was in 1959 LOL)

But in this case, you can actually give it back. I'd have binned mine after a month but the main thing that stopped me was my husband said in a very flat voice, Well I don't know why you bothered, you're no better off with it.

Which did the trick of course. I wasn't being logical with the thing but I couldn't see that - whereas he knew I'd be sure to make him see he was talking rubbish LOL - he knows me SO well - just needed to get my back up and I instantly whanged into action and got the 'stupid heap of electronic junk' sorted ! LOL

Oh my love if mine was so near I' d be petrified! I just wish I knew when it was happening! You will be fine.

Trophy, your hubby is the master of the flat voice!

Hope you don't have to wait too long patti 🙂

I'm sure after a couple of weeks we'll be wondering what all the fuss was about. For now though I'm in the same boat as you, and yes, getting nervous too. It does feel like quite a big change.

On the plus side I bought a spibelt a couple of weeks ago to carry the pump. I wore it most of last week with my dextrose and meter while camping and hardly noticed it after a while which has helped my confidence that I'll get used to wearing the pump all the time too. That is my biggest worry right now.

Doesn't take ever so long to stop bumping into furniture and door frames after you get it, and they are quite robust fortunately! LOL

I always wonder what Pete has said to you Patti, when you say that about him. What if, for instance he's said something outrageous to you and he wasn't joking? - even I don't know most of the time!

It was what he said about you, two summers ago! About you going for the weekend and not being able to get rid of you. He had SUCH a straight face when he said it!
