I'm a little constipated today,I think I will get some psyllium husk can anyone tell me the best way to use it and is it expensive?,and has a doctor ever been known to prescribe it?I have type 2 diabetes and I take 2 metformin at dinner time.

When I had that problem I got some Senna tablets prescribed, did the trick! 🙂 Never tried psyllium husk.

The only time I tried psyllium husk was to follow a recipe in Tom Kerridge’s Dopamine cookery book. I wish I knew it could help constipation as I would have avoided it with a barge pole! I have the exact opposite problem. I’m with @Northerner, senna tablets will help. Also, I’m sure you know this, drink lots of water.

My father's GP used to prescribe Fybogel (psyllium husk) for him, for day to day use, and then senna for if he got extra bunged up. (The senna used to work a bit too well sometimes.)

Yes, you can have a good run for your money with senna! 😱

Cloudy apple juice can help soften things up if you don’t want to do anything more dramatic.

Hi thanks everyone,I have made sure that I have started the day with plenty of water and will carry on like that,I have just visited Boots and bought a packet of Senna, which I will take tonight as directed by the pharmacist,if this becomes a future problem I will speak to my doctor and get something prescribed if I can

Aldi no sugar sweets did the trick for me. Just eat a pack in one go and wait.

Andy (never again) HB 🙂

I will have to pick some up next time,I've just read about somebody that took them to the cinema as a treat and they ended up in the toilets for the entire film 😎
