I’m starting to diet again and been told by diabetics consultant to start on mounjaro. I’m a bit confused by advise that l will need to add protein to my diet, but all the “protein” shakes / yoghurts / cereal bars all seem high in sugars 20-30g or is this normal and safe?

You could aim for whole protein sources like egg and chicken breast?
Hi. Thanks yes l’ve got that bit covered but there’s so much stuff out there lm trying to get my head around it all, and wondered about other people’s experiences, thanks again

Are you sure you understood the instructions as it shouldn't be necessary to have extra protein unless you are reducing carbs a lot and then you need protein and healthy fats for energy.
There are low carb high protein yoghurts Arla from most supermarkets or Brooklea from Aldi.
Nature Valley protein bars are only 10g carbs per bar, I'm not sure about the drinks.
What other medication are you taking and what dietary regime are you following./

I think there’s not a need to especially add protein drinks, just ensure you eat a good healthy balanced diet @PatosDa because you will find on Mounjaro you will only want to be eating smaller meals, I usually smack on protein, like pickled eggs, or walnuts

Regarding Yoghurt personally think best to stick to full fat Greek Yogurt, I eat that with berries and chopped apples / nuts & seeds (usually sprinkled with flaxseed)

however if you did want to add protein in the form of the shakes you were asking about
there are low in sugar and sugar free options (see photo)
we’ve seen that one In Lidl & B&M my wife drinks one each day (I also do occasionally)

what kind of a diet are you currently eating ?

don't overthink it, but hope you get on well on Mounjaro
I’ve been on it since last summer and now lost 20 KG, there’s a few people who have similar results I know both on here and non diabetic friends (they are taking it on private prescription purely as a weight loss exercise)

That’s just it the consultant just said going to put you on mounjaro, gave me a leaflet about it explained how it works, side effects and was going to write to my gp. I’ve got so many other health issues won’t go intoxicated them. TBH, it’s only after the consultation that I started to think about a million questions. Let’s see if my gp calls me in

When I was under the dietician and needed more protein, they wanted it from whole foods first and foremost. If I needed more to hit my goal, unflavoured whey protein isolate was recommended. I would add it to greek yogurt, and an egg and courgette bake thing I make. For a protein boost in milk we were advised to add milk powder to milk, for a fortified milk.

These ways mean you can control your carbs etc a bit more. Although there are protein bars and shakes everywhere as you've spotted they're a bit junk food like apart from the protein.

Unless you need to replenish protein shortly after intense exercise, you're better off eating real foods that are high in protein - bearing in mind that some of them (nuts, cheese) may also be high in fat.
