Glad you are getting somewhere Andy. To me if seems fairly logical that if your body is not handling something correctly you cut down on it. I think you may also need to talk to a specialist dietican to work out Tom's protein intake to ensure normal growth and development for his age. Good luck.

Hi Andy

Sorry to come in so late here. That must have been an awful worry for you on top of the T1 diagnosis. I always dread the day something else rears its ugly head and my son is older than yours (17). Being a parent in this situation can be so hard at times. I too have spent times lying awake at night worrying about things and not knowing which way to turn, but this forum has been a Godsend. I have gained such valuable knowledge on here and trust what I have found. I have actually found even our GP is scarily ignorant about T1 yet in the past trusted him 100%. It's scary really.

Glad to hear your communication lines are so open and honest with your son though. My lad was almost 16 at diagnosis and within months went all secretive and won't discuss anything. He goes into his consultations on his own, so we only have copies of his follow up letters to really find out what is going on. Keep the communication going no matter what. It's so important to know what's going on.

Fingers crossed things really settle down with this protein leak and you get reassurance before too long that everything is fine.

Tina

PS. Will PM you

Thanks Mike, Catherine, Hobie

@Bev. Tom has annual bloods and now will have urine tests quarterly. I just had a quick peruse at CWD which looks interesting and will sign him up if hes ok with it. He is already via his care team going on trips and excursions with type 1 children of various ages but he didn't go the last time but I think that was a confidence thing. I encourage him to join in with these things as much as possible its all good as far as i can see.
Its his first day at secondary school Wednesday morning so lets see how that one goes. I'm a bit apprehensive but he seems ok with it so all good.

Speak soon guys

Andy

Hi Andy,

CWD is more for parents rather than children - its a place to offload - discuss worries and have a general moan with like-minded parents. I hope the School start goes well. Bev

Bev... Ah I see.. sorry.. just me being a plank. 😱
Will deffo sign myself up.

Thanks

Thanks Tina.
