Anyone got a view on Nature Valley Protein Bars? On a low carb diet a bit of extra protein is useful and these are only 9.6g carbs per bar, but contain a fifth of the RDA for protein.

I had the Nature Valley protein peanut and chocolate bars,I can tell you they were tastey and a nice treat for me

I tried them but find them sickly/ too filling but I know @Kaylz is a big advocate of them.

They have a fair amount of saturated fat, it appears.

I don't get it - why not just eat nuts & seeds? Not processed, no additives, negligible sat fats, great proteins ...

Salted Caramel are my favourite and have one 6 days a week lol, they are 9.4g carbs

the 9.6g carbs ones are the peanut & chocolate which I enjoy once a week

and although I haven't tried them they also do a coconut & almond one which is only 8.8g carbs

they are very nice just a tad expensive at times so I'm hoping Tesco has them on offer soon as I'm nearly out :(
xx

Nuts and seeds are part of my diet but I haven't had anything remotely resembling a treat for 5 months. Just wondering whether these bars would be a safe choice.

I keep my intake of saturated fat to under 50% of RDA anyway.

Martin

Understood - go for it!

Now you've got me thinking of my occasional treat - vanilla gelati, no nutritional virtue whatsoever ...

I like them and have tried all 3 flavours. I don't find them sickly, and they hit the spot as a treat more than nuts & seeds do after a particularly low carb/savoury/salad lunch. They do come up a bit expensive, but they are quite often on offer around our way.

If your ever near Aldi they do a lovely nut bar, pack of 4 gluten free nutrition per 40g bar fat sats 3.2g,carbs 5.9g,fibre 8.5g,protein 6.9g,they are almond, peanut and sea salt nut bars with a dark choclate flavour coating on the underside, lovely and firm from the fridge

They sound nice, belugalad, but unfortunately there is no Aldi anywhere near us. We have Morrisons, Waitrose, and a couple of small Tescos and Sainsburys. We also had an M&S until it closed recently... :(

I think I maybe having a look for those in my next Aldi trip. They sound good enough to eat lol. 😛 Thanks for letting us all know about them.

As it happens we have a brand-new Aldi here. Opened 2 weeks ago. We did our whole weekend's shop there on Saturday.

Martin
How did you find it?,I like it, it's taken me a while to work my way round the store and finding where things are,but I have certainly noticed that I have got a lot more for my money,it would be nice if it was nearer but it gives me a 6 mile round trip on my bike each time I go so I enjoy that,I need frozen broccoli today so will make a point of cycling there this evening 85p at Aldi and £1.30 Sainsburys.
I cycle past a Lidl on the way,I go there too but only for Milbona greek yoghurt, nuts and frozen chicken breasts

Actually we have a Lidl too, but whenever I've been in there to look for something specific (like those protein rolls people posted about) they've never had them in. And the queues to pay have always been so long it made me lose the will to live :(🙄

I never did find the protein rolls,I'm sure I read that they have been discontinued quite some time ago,I would love a nice ham and tomato roll or a bacon and egg one🙂I was in our local M&S simply food store yesterday and the sandwiches were reduced to 30p,I was sad that I couldn't have one:(

I too like the Nature Valley Protein Bars in all 3 flavours for an occasional treat. I find they work well for an on the go breakfast now that I know I need to pre bolus at least 1.5hrs before eating it for breakfast, I don't have problems going hypo afterwards. B&M stores often have them for £1.99 for a box of 4. I looked for the Aldi ones but couldn't find them.

I shall be looking in Aldi tomorrow. You enjoyed one did you Anitram.

they would be great dipped in chocolate :D 😛

Actually I do like nuts but too many of them can be a prob too everything in moderation :D

I did. Nice to find something I can have as a treat after five treat-free months.

Martin

You do deserve it Martin.

Cor another nice treat Martin would be strawberries dipped in chocolate and maybe a little drizzle of amaretto 😛 :D (although the amaretto could spoil the flavour of the strawberries) with maybe a dollop of vanilla ice cream. I've not done the deed yet in recent years but sure is a nice thought.
