See some people on here recommend eating protein bars.
But when I lift one in the supermarket they same to contain sugars.
I'm confused.

Sugar is in everything I'm afraid it's not solely the sugar you need to pay attention to its the carbohydrate you need to watch x

Something as filling as the Nature Valley Protein bars (which I like) which are less than 12 grams of carb and a fair bit of fibre are preferable to many snacks. They're not really impressive in terms of protein content for people like bodybuilders etc. and one of the drawbacks is they contain nearly 200 calories each if you're watching your weight. They can also be a bit pricey.

For diabetics who are not needing to watch calorie intake, I think they're a very good option when we are craving sweetness and something more substantial. They don't spike my levels.

@Jon, I look for snacks that don't exceed about 12 grams of carb. Don't concern yourself with the sugar, look at the carb content because the carbs convert to glucose anyway.

Yes Nature Valley protein bars are under 10g carbs per bar I haven't tried them myself yet as Tesco don't get stock until tonight but there are quite a few people on here who rave about them 🙂 also I think fulfil bars are just over 10g carbs per bar although I think they contain polyols so not good if eaten too much x

I bought a job lot of fulfil bars off eBay. 30 for £15. They do contain polyols, but the bars are so filling I can't eat more than one & have had no ill effects yet.

What is polyols please

'A group of reduced-calorie sweeteners known as polyols (or sugar alcohols) provide some unique qualities to reduced-calorie products. These sweeteners are neither sugars nor alcohols. Instead, they are a group of low-digestible carbohydrates used as sugar replacers.'

The problem is they can cause the runs taken in large enough quantities. They don't raise my blood glucose levels but can give me the trots! 😱

I recommend these:

8.4g of carbs per bar (6g sugar).

They are quite widely available, taste good, and I haven't found a bar that is lower carbs than this...

Yep I finally managed to get some peanut & choc nature valley ones 🙂 unfortunately though my Tesco are discontinuing them on the 25th may so I hope you guys Tesco's aren't planning on doing the same x
