I have nothing but watery diarrhoea when I take this medicine. I had no problem before with extended release Metformin but this seems like laxative medicine . My NHS has changed this .Since last month I cannot take Metformin anymore. Please help from this laxative induced diarrhoea.

Welcome to the forum @Sam321

Sorry to hear that you are now having stomach upset with the new version of Metformin you have been switched to.

I suggest you book a phone appointment with your GP and ask why your prescription was changed.

Gastric upset is quite common with metformin, but it sounds like you were fine taking a different version. Can you remember which one you were on before? Glucophage perhaps?

Yes Merck Gluophase SR . I never had any problems with it . Sukkarato SR has expients like Shellac and Providone which seem to be irritating my stomach and causing Diarrhoea and Colitis. Also has Propylene Glycol coating.

. Hope it does not contain carcinogenic like NDMA found by the FDA in cheap Metformin imported into USA. It does even state country of manufacture.

Hopefully you can explain the unpleasant reaction you’ve had to the Sukkarto and ask for your older medication to be reinstated, providing it is still available - or try an alternative formulation?

Does your prescription name the specific brandname? Or does it only state the generic name?

i found the same, I was beside myself with the colic-type pain in the stomach. I refused to take it but there should be something that will help. It is always safer to talk to your Gp or nurse. I hope you get the help you wish for.

I have a problem with one particular pharmaceutical company metformin it causes a vile taste in my mouth .I spoke to the excellent pharmacist and he put a note on my records not to give me these particular tablets .I have had various other brands of metformin SR with no problems
