Hiya...i haven't been on there for a while but check out the nhs choices website - from memory it gives you basic info about hospitals, docs etc. I'm fairly certain the right to a second opinion is sacrosanct in the nhs, so might be worth insisting on seeing a different GP to request for referal if necessary. Failing that try your MP maybe? Sorry you're getting such rubbish 'service'! :(

Well ask your GP for a referral to that very person.

Whilst you are waiting to see your GP, ring that doctor's secretary at the NHS hospital he is at and ask her if he also works privately because you want to see him again in any case whether your GP refers you or not. If he does, she will give you the number of his private practice - you'll have that ready for when (if) your GP request fails.

But if your GP does refuse, he will have to give you a B good reason why he's refusing.

Trophywench I would quite like to see a guy called dr Partha Kar who I saw at the hospital when I was diagnosed. He was nice and has an excellent reputation but the hospital nurse told me I would need a referral even to see him again

Ask your GP for a referal to see him 🙂 Explain to your GP that the DN's very limited knowledge of diabetes isn't helping you gain control and you need some expert advice. Any arguments point out that you are entitled to a 2nd opinion and besides it's your limbs and sight at risk not his.
