Hi all , quick question. Can you get two different prescriptions of test strips for 2 different meters? i use the combo pump so have the aviva meter but really need a spare meter for the car for driving ( i always do b.g before i get in car but half the time i forget to take the b.m with me 😱 ) , so i have ordered the free meter from abbott , but didnt think to find out about test strip prescriptions 😱 , thanks in advance 🙂

Hi Bex, yes you can 🙂 I have an Accuchek Aviva meter and my spare is an Optium Xceed - my repeat has both types of strips listed.

Might need you to explain to GP that you have 2 different meters, and why you use them, but shouldn't be a problem overall. Just be careful not to use one meter & strips while other strips get to their use by date.

I asked for two different types of strips for my son's two meters so we had a spare set but the request was ignored, they only issued the one lot. I guess again it's down to the individual GP but I agree, explain why you want two different types and hopefully they will be fine. After all, you are being responsible testing when about to drive. The only other thing I would suggest is buying a second identical meter to your original.

I get two different prescriptions for test strips, I have aviva nano and accu check compact, I got them with no problems.

Yup, same pump and TWO spare Nano's!

(That's because my pump meter went t**s up immediately before I went on a touring holiday for 4 weeks - so DSN brought me a brace of Nanos to take, on a Sunday at that!)

thanks 🙂 i hope gp wont kick up a stink as i am only allowed 250 strips a month which i do get through with pumping and driving, i shall put forward my case to him and hope he sees its just sensible to have one for the car , i would get another accu check meter but dont want to have to pay for one when i can get one free , suppose i could talk to dsn and see what she says 🙂

You may well find Accu Chek would happily send you a meter free, then you could use the same strips?

Having said that, I have one pot of Aviva strips on script in case I ever need to use my old Expert as a backup meter

I should add that I use the Optium for ketone tests as well, plus the strips are individually wrapped so easier to carry if I only want one or two when out on a run. I prefer my Aviva to use generally, plus I have software for it 🙂

Thats interesting as i have never considered using a meter for ketones , usually because i can smell them in my nose ( can anyone else? ) its wierd i've always been able to , not the smell from them on my breath but in the back of my nose , usually pretty reliable always back up with a ketostick. i do like my aviva but would like to have one to keep in the glove box ....but then i suppose that brings new problems like the temp in winter.. hadn't thought about that either! lol i'll talk myself out of it at this rate!🙄
