Prescribed Mounjaro

A slice of wholemeal bread is 15g carbs and a glass of milk about another 10g carbs so you are having way more than you need to treat it. This means that your own body has to produce more insulin to deal with the glucose from those extra carbs and that will thwart you losing weight which presumably is part of the reason for the Mounjaro and not help your insulin resistance.
Try to be a bit more disciplined with it. Just sit and sip a small glass of milk or have a cup of tea or coffee with the milk in it instead without the bread.

My Mounjaro has arrived just today. Unfortunately not on prescription as my HbA1c is 37. I'm using it purely for weight loss, which it cannot be prescribed for sadly. I have however had to come off my prescription Sitagliptin to avoid unnecessary hypos.

I'm assuming you have been prescribed a 'starter' dose to help your body get used to the medication? From my research, Mounjaro has the best results with the least side effects which is why I've gone for it, despite it being the most expensive!!

Good luck with your journey - I plan on having my first injection on Friday I think.

Hi All.
I have been prescribed Mounjaro and tbh am a bit nervous about taking it. I will have my first injection after work today so will see what happens. Think I've read too many horror stories. My Hba1c is 88 so I definitely need to get it sorted. Is there any advice / tips on what I can expect and the best way to maximise its usefulness ?
All the best Paul lm in a similar position about to start but waiting on GP to issue first prescription, so wondering the same questions. Good luck

Definitley less of the false Hypos now as I am in my second week. Strangely I do feel hungry I am noticing. Wondering if it is still some residual false Hypo symptoms, or that 2.5mg is just a starter dose and I have adapted to it quickly.
before my first injection my time in range according to my Libre, was 2%. ( I know right ). Currently showing 82%. i am taking that as a WIN. Like I said starting to feel hunger but not giving in to it.

Can you only have this medication for weight loss if you have type 2 diabetes? I’m type one but have been told I can’t have it

From a quick internet search I think the answer is no, it is not approved, there are potential serious side effects and may affect how your insulin works.

unfortunately @jd89 It is only approved currently for T2, I think this is due to the affect it affects on how insulin works
although T2’s that are on insulin can be prescribed Mounjaro, and other similar medications
Having said that, there are studies happening to see if (in the future) this kind of GLP-1 could help and be approved for T1 Diabetics, I just saw this online, haven’t read it thoroughly, but here’s a link

Hi @Paul watson good to hear the introduction of Mounjaro might already be helping you,
after how many days would you say you were getting the food noise feeling as some of us call it ?

Hi the feelings started as soon as my levels began coming down below 10.0 initially. Now much. Better still get them but around low 6 to 5.5 s I think my body is getting used to being at a lower level. Did have bad night last night at 3am with very strong hypo feeling but got through it eventually. Trying to let things happen and just keep moving forward. 3rd jab will be tomorrow. Gone by pretty quickly.

I think I might’ve replied to a previous post of yours either here, or if not elsewhere on the forum, that I remember back many years ago (certainly before I found this fantastic forum)
think it was soon after I started taking insulin maybe, getting an appointment to see my GP telling him I was feeling terrible as experiencing hypos, yes I felt terrible
I was feeling terrible and so worried as my FP tests were sometimes showing on my BGM that I was as low as 6 🙄
a long was off hypo but but very different and yes makes you feel bad initially as used to being in the upper teens and sometimes even higher

Thank you for the info!

@Paul watson glad it's working for you, good luck with the rest of your Mounjaro journey

Not had Mounjaro but sounds like it's just your body adjusting to lower sugar levels, it will smooth out over time. Within a month all the sugar and c**p should be out of your system (likely earlier but give it a month to be sure).
