Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hey all *waves*,
I’ve been type 1 for 35 years and I just found out that I’m pregnant two days ago. YAY! I’ve been on 5mg folic acid for a while as well as taking Calcium and vitamin D.
Got my first diabetic antenatal clinic on Wednesday and then my first scan the week after, but I want to get in there early.
Are there any pregnancy vitamins on the market specifically aimed at diabetics? Most of the normal ones have folic acid in them and obviously I don’t want to end up taking too much or too little! Am also aware that there’s probably other vitamins I should be on, but don’t know which!
Any help appreciated!

Congratulations @trailmix 🙂 You don’t need a special diabetic pregnancy vitamin. The amount of folic acid they contain is tiny compared to the specially large dose we take, so it’s perfectly ok to take a normal pregnancy multivitamin containing folic acid alongside your high dose folic acid🙂 (source - my consultant, DSN and midwife through three pregnancies).
