Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
just got home from an appointment with the diabetic nurse at my GP surgery. I am apparently very close to having type 2 diabetes, but the only advise given, was to loose weight, eat healthy and do more exercise. Looking at the meal planners, they all seem impractical for me. I have to leave the house by 6.30 am so just have enough time to grab a coffee and a bowl of cereal. Then i am on the road, covering anywhere in Essex or around the M25. If i am lucky, i will have time for a sandwich and drink sometime between 12 and 4 pm depending on jobs. I then get home any time between 8.30 and 11pm. which does not leave much time to eat let alone prepare a meal. anyone else with a busy lifestyle got any suggestions for meals on the go?

If you can get to a shop a couple of times a week buy salad stuff, packs of cooked meat, tins of fish - cheese, eggs, add some chicken thighs sausages, loin chops steak, lamb slices - cook things which need cooking on the days when you get home in good time - many ovens have timers so you can just turn on and leave things to cook - move them to the fridge before bed.
You then have a pick and mix in the fridge to grab first thing, take with you for lunch and ready for when you get home.
If you really miss bread then Asda do a really low carb protein bread - it looks like a brown brick, but it is 4 gm per slice.
I suggest taking a flask of coffee with you along with extra thick cream - the sort that is solid, so it won't spill, in a box with a chiller pack. Just put a spoonful of the cream in your mug, mix in a little coffee to thin it out so it will not be lumpy when you add the rest of the coffee.

Welcome! Looks like we have a similar work pattern covering the same area. I often get up 5.30 and don’t get home before 7 ish, I follow a low carb diet and it can be tricky so planning ahead is key, I use the low carb bread for toast with peanut butter, quick and filling, lunch I will often make a no pastry quiche and take a couple of slices with me along with two small apples, one for mid morning and the other on the way home, I always have a small pot of nuts (almonds, walnuts....not peanuts!) as an emergency snack, they are great for dealing with hunger 😛 Evening meals depend on how late I get back, omelette is a quick fix, or steak and salad, if I have more time I might make a curry with cauliflower rice or a cottage pie with mashed cauliflower cheese topping or stir fry veg with chicken or pork chop. Once you get your head around it things are easier and to be honest I really enjoy the diet now, my weight is down, my energy levels up and most importantly my bloods are in normal range :D
