Relationship to Diabetes

I have just turned the big 30 and over the last year have been wanting to grow my family! I have been on folic acid 5mg since March and my control is much better than it has ever been, my estimated Hba1c is now 57 (whereas before I used to struggle to handle my diabetes and chose to ignore it as much as I could, leading to very poor control ). However, I have been told it needs to be ideally around 42 and I don't know how much more I can do. I am exhausted of waiting for a nod of approval from the consultant (who i can only see every 6 months as she is do busy!) and I am so concerned the longer I wait the harder it may be due to my age and the added risks associated with that, plus I feel now is the right time to grow my family but I keep getting pushed back by the diabetes pre conception team and feel so upset by it!
Any words of advice would be much appreciated, currently feeling very stressed and anxious.

They are obviously concerned that a high blood glucose could be a problem for a pregnancy but surprised that they are not giving you more help with your insulin doses for more effective blood glucose management.
If you post what insulins and regime you are on then those who are Type 1 may be able to offer some suggestions.

Welcome @Bhavini 🙂 The pregnancy targets are very strict and I guess they just want to make sure you’re able to get the tight control needed. Having said that, 42 is a pretty strict target. We had another lady here recently who was in a similar situation - I’ll link you to the thread if I find it.

Do you have a Libre? What insulins do you take and when? Is there any particular times you’re going high, eg after meals?
