Hi everyone, I had a telephone consultation with my GP today who has said I am pre diabetic but that as most of the female members in my family have diabetes, the older ones including my Mom, Aunty and two uncles died from diabetic related illness so I want to get on top of this asap. I am 65 and I also have cirrhosis of the liver, non alcoholic fatty liver disease which is also hereditary and the female members have it also including my daughter and niece who are 30 and 35 and who are "fit and well and slim". I am looking for some tips but will of course search on Diabetes UK for foods to eat and not to eat etc etc but just having a quick look it was mind blowing. Anyway, I will persevere and just wanted to say hello. Jackie 🙂

Frankly if I'd been told when a teenager that carbs were more harmful than simply piling on the weight, all females in our house would have been pleased. All 3 of us preferred eating proteins and veg rather than stodge!

What's not to like?

Yes of course we have a varied menu at our house, because in the main it isn't a Boris 'Stop doing it entirely right now!' but is definitely test before and after eating it, and if it increases your blood glucose more than required - next time have a smaller portion, until you discover how much of that particular thing your body can tolerate. Some things I tried for about 20 years to eat and failed as a result of which I haven't had a banana for c. 25 years. Daughter shopping for us currently, and brought us 2. so two for Pete. He had one this morning, and offered me a bite, which I accepted. One small bite. And my BG, from 6ish when I got up, was 12ish before lunch!
