I am eating more poridge which is more or less 0 sugar.

I see on some cereals that they contain 3 or 4% sugar

So Oates cereal is 4% where as oats porridge is 0% .

I also found that there are some fruit juices that contain 3 or 4 % sugar.

Are these foods ok or is even 3% sugar no good?

Thanks

Most members here find total carbohydrate content a far more helpful measure than ‘of which sugars’.

’Of which sugars’ can add detail between two similar items, but the digestive system is very adept at breaking down all carbohydrates - so just because something has 0% sugar (sucrose) doesn’t necessarily mean if has no glucose-raising potential.

People with T1 diabetes often use fruit juices to treat hypoglycaemia where they need the carbs to be very rapidly absorbed, so I would suspect most fruit juices would be best avoided?

It isn’t that carbohydrates or sugars need to be avoided entirely - but choosing the types and portion sizes that your body can cope well with. Many forum members find it helpful to aim for a daily total carbohydrate intake - 130g of total carbohydrates per day being a common ‘low carb‘ starting point.

It is a common misconception that it is just 'sugar' that is important when in fact it is the carbohydrate number which is what people need to look at, This is not helped by Heath care professionals telling people they need to cut down on sugar rather than saying carbohydrates.
Some foods can be low or virtually zero sugar but still very high in carbohydrates so would not be a good choice.
