Hello, i have been told I have pre-diabetes not sure what I need to be doing food wise. I know it is a wake up call...any advice

A prediabetes diagnosis will mean you have an HbA1C of between 42mmol/mol and 47mmol/mol (48 being the threshold that puts someone in the diabetes zone) and is an average of your blood glucose over the previous 3 months. As you say it is a wake up call to do something about it. How much work you need to do depends where you sit in the range.
As it is all carbohydrates which convert to glucose then reducing your intake and losing weight if you need to will all help to bring your level down.
You may only need to make some modest changes by cutting out some of the big hitters like cakes, biscuits, and sugary drinks including fruit juices and reducing portion size of others like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, breakfast cereals, tropical fruits and having meals based on meat, fish, vegetables, eggs, cheese and fruits like berries.
Looking at packets or Google search for FOOD X total carbs will give you the information to make better food choices.
Many people find a low carb normal fat approach successful that being less than 130g per day but there are other way you will also see mention of here. Reducing carbs gradually is better as it is gentler on your eyes and nerves.

Can you remember the result of your HbA1c? This can give you an indication of how close to the borderline you are for a formal diabetes diagnosis.

Being at increased risk of diabetes can mean that your metabolism has started to struggle a little with your menu, and often people fid. that a few modest changes, and trying to lose some weight, can help enormously. Extra weight, particularly if carried around your middle, can impair the efficiency of the organs that regulate your blood glucose levels, so losing weight, particularly any ‘visceral fat’ which may have built up, is very helpful.

There are lots of different strategies employed by forum members - low and moderate carb, or calorie controlled menus, intermittent fasting, or more significant interventions like the 800 calorie ‘Newcastle’ diet.

It’s really a question of finding an approach that works for you, and which your body responds to.

Hi Hatty, I've literally just joined myself and it's all new to me so happy to find other people here like myself. Hope you are doing okay. It all feels a bit strange at the moment for me too so understand how you feel. I purchased the Diabetes carb&cal book it has a break down of foods and carb and nutritional values so it's very useful, but I'm still finding I need advice too on what to do, but it's a start, not sure if that will be of any use to you. I wish you all the best with things 🙂
