I've just been prescribed Pravastatin and the potential side effects don't look too nice. Has anyone else taken Pravastatin and if yes how did you get on with it please?

No AJ, just simvaststin, and I stopped taking it as it made my legs ache something chronic!! th dr. said it wasn't the tabs, but when I stopped the pain stopped.... funny that

Don't think the side effects of Pravastatin are actually any different from any of the other statins, are they?

EG Memory probs, muscle probs, kidney/liver probs to name but a few. Add to that some GP's don't have the slightest idea that they should never be prescribed to anyone for whom pregnancy is a possibility as all statins have a known and worrying side effect of deforming a foetus.

Which particular side effect(s) did you have in mind AJ ? Incidentally I do hope that he has also booked you in for a test after about a month/6 weeks, cos they are supposed to test after first prescribing em in case you happen to get rhabdomyelosis - which he won't know upfront - see

To be honest I was more worried about the side effects relating to dizziness (almost at the top of the list of side effects for this medication) visual disturbances (which I already have a lot due to migraine aura at times plus maculopathy) and stomach problems (which I already have because of the gastroparesis)..........but as I have exuadates causing problems with my eyes together with a blood vessel blocked in my eye I dare not take any chances with cholesterol in case I get a blood vessel block near to my heart or brain or wosening of the eye problem

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhh it's a nightmare trying to decide what it's best to do

I did ask about a blood test but was just told that I needed one to check the cholesterol after two months and she insisted that was the only blood test that I needed - although I'm guessing that this may be because I had no problems when I was previously on Simvastatin (although this was before I started taking the erythromycin)
