Hello, my name is Toni i have been paying for a 12 month direct debit pre payment prescription monthly For years but since march 2019 i have been put on metformin, (been type 2 for 10 years)

only when a new head nurse joined my gps shes put me on metformin..
Went to pick my prescriptions (have a lot) and the chemist fella said why are you paying for your prescriptions? Your on metformin there for exempt from nhs prescription fees for all your meds, ask doc for a form
So when i got home i did and she is sending it out but im wondering if i will get any refund for paying right back to when metformin was prescribed for me? Has anyone else had this situation at all? Any advice will be great thank you

Do you have any of the receipts?
I believe that you can claim for payments made when not due, but it might be more difficult to get them back without the receipts.

I was told I could only claim back for a prescription I'd wrongly paid for if I'd asked the pharmacist for a particular official receipt at the time.
I found this, though, about prepayment refunds, which might help, it’s not specific to medical exemption certificates, but it’s worth asking.

The other option if you have no receipt is your bank statement if it was paid on card. This will show when, what time, where and how much was spent.

Thank you amity, Yes its all been payed direct debit every month so should be ok

With the pre payment certificate the NHS business service authority will have a record you have an active one and of all your payments so I’d suggest calling and asking about a refund.

Thanks mark - Yeah I defiantly will do thank you, ive got the form coming she sent it yesterday so when thats here i will fill it in and send it off then ill phone them and ask where i stand with a refund,

The doctor needs to sign it and confirm the condition you have, so unless they have done that already and just need you to add your details, you will more than likely need to return it to your GP.
